News reports from LA look horrific, are any member here from that area?

Praying for our friends there.

They probably evacuated.  Society is always ahead of the curve.  I'm sure alot lost their homes.   However, they probably and most likely sought refuge in the homes of friends.  I'm sure they are ok.   Lets wait for any updates on JW.Org.

Pacific Palisades is between Hollywood and Malibu, so a lot of movie stars and people in the movie industry live there.

According to Zillow the average home value is 3.5 million dollars.

There it is: the vanity of the material things the world chases after. In a few minutes, the fiery ogre will have devoured everything, and what will be left? 3.5 millions of embers and ashes.

We have a family in our area that lost everything when Paradise, CA burned in 2018. They evacuated as directed but could not really take much since the fire was moving so quickly.

They were in our congregation for a while but are now in a neighboring one.

I was able to go through the Paradise area shortly after that fire. It was amazing to see the damage it had caused.

I saw on Fox News about 1 hour ago, showing a bulldozer moving all the cars on Pacific Palisades Drive.  People left their cars, those that left their keys, the cars were moved but those who took them and locked the car, the bulldozer moved them.  They were smashed up.  The one's with the electric Tesla's, they were bulldozed cause no one of that removal crew knew how to start them.  One reporter on the ground said this is so devastating, California has had fires but never like this one with zero percent no containment.  The wind is blowing at 100 mph.  That is Pacific Palisades, and Malibu, is not a poor man's paradise.  It's an affluent area, old and new homes.  One house that was burnt to the ground was valued at 3.5 million dollars.  There are other's on the beach at Malibu, valued for much higher.  Ins companies some have canceled the policies of some homeowners who's homes are no more.   So far 3 deaths have been reported.  Am glad it's not all those stuck on the road, like the Maui fire, all those people who didn't leave their cars and didn't know where to run to were caught in that tragedy.

Fire is so devastating. Who knows if/when any of those destroyed homes will be rebuilt. Some homes may be rebuilt but cannot actually be replaced.

I live near Waldo, Fl. The city, although incorporated in 1907, dates back to the early 1800's. There was a fire there Tuesday morning that destroyed a home that used to be a hotel more than 100 years ago. They may eventually build something else on that corner - but they can't really replace a building that old with all the history

This is the building that burned

That area is getting worse and worse with each passing year. A couple years ago in Paradise, CA, that entire town was completely wiped out by forest fires.

Those Santa Ana winds are mighty deadly. Just another result of man screwing up his own environment, as most of this is driven by global warming.

Paradise CA and LA County are far removed from each other, not in the same area. 450 miles apart. The common denominators were drought and high winds.  You are right about drought likely caused by global warming. Were we live on the northern most are of the Pacific Coast is still under drought warnings in January of all times.

If it is that way now, in the dead of winter, imagine how much worse it will be during the height of summer in July.

Not friends only, but for everyone. None deserves feeling the pain of a disaster.

That is a very good point of course, and I agree wholeheartedly.

Wow, I am not sure I would have a courage to bulldoze Tesla's, their batteries may start burning violently if damaged.

Three separate fires now and a 4th one just started. 5 people dead.

5 locations now on fire.

It evokes sad emotions of our fires down here, and the total devastation that follows.

It's horrific.

Our experience is: When you leave home - or the power goes out - the news feed is lost. I see on the news people unaware of the serious nature of fire, and there is no negotiating with the fire front.

We saw on TV a fire truck in front of the face of the fire in a streetin Altadena, but no water...

The news showed people filling plastic 'wheelie' bins with water, and rushing with the water to try save their home.

So sad.

I look forward to a time when this does not happen.

Comparing wind speeds with a tornado:

An F1 tornado has wind speeds of 86–110 mph – In a tornado, this wind alone would cause moderate damage (e.g., roofs stripped, mobile homes overturned).

A follow-up to the post I made earlier about a 100+ year-old house that burned near me Tuesday ... this is what it looks like now:

I feel for those in California when house after house looks worse that this one

It's a pretty sad situation over here. I'm trying to keep a line of communication open with witnesses and not between Altadena/Pasadena to Arcadia above the 210. Most have had to evacuate or lost their home in part or entirely. See the photos from them all is horrific, the night photos are crazy.

I'm in the more eastern part so we're getting smoke and really poor quality. But I went up to the water tower that gives a major 360 view of LA, OC, some SB. All smoke looking into LA.
