One of our toughest medical challenges is now front and center in my life. A beloved brother has been diagnosed with Leukemia ( AML) . As he is resolved to keep Jehovah’s requirement and is refusing blood while attempting to achieve remission through chemotherapy he and his wife are facing the fight of a lifetime. The HLC and the Congregation have all been very supportive. The medical teams have generally been supportive and cooperative. If any of you here have been through this process of Chemo and recovery without blood and have any tips they will be welcomed.

Dear David,

Leukemia CLL, can be a long fight, due to the fact that it is a slow growing disease.

To the point of the research we know that lungs plays an huge part in the creation of immune white cells,

this can be consciously increase by deep breathing.

Also Vitamin C in high dosage can really be effective by boosting the immune system. Doctor can approve such a protocol, it might initiate a cleansing of the body, in a natural way, with no big side effect (as chemio which is blinding destructive of both good and bad cells).

That s up to the brother to decide.

i m following up this video.

Please note, this can help but no one can guarantee the success and full recovery from our dear God in the new system.

Hold on and stay as strong as possible.

Perhaps our Brother can investigate some of the cannabis treatments, I have read a number of reports that indicate success in treating many cancers and other health issues, leukemia being one of those...

This is AML which is very fast and aggressive. However the effect of the treatment is generally similar. And helpful. Thanks

The use of dronobinal , a cannabas derivation which promotes appetite is certainly on the table if necessary. So far though our brother is doing well.

An update: Our Brother is doing well so far . The HLC has done a splendid job linking his Oncologist to some very good resources and hematologists known for working with Jehovah’s people. There is , however, institutional resistance being manifest at the hospital, our brother has done the math and believes he is receiving less than currative dosage ( in other words they are giving him palliative treatment when he has asked for curative and hoping he wouldn’t notice ) . Further we have all seen evidence that a better kind of Chemo is available and has a high success rate (15/25 ) in research with Jehovah’s Witnesses. So the specter of religious discrimination is being raised. If so, I would expect that this Brother will not let that pass unchallenged. Not for his own sake but for any who need such Hospital services in the future.

It’s a good job this brother is on top of it & has noticed. Hopefully he’ll get the correct treatment & all will go well for him. So many are suffering with terrible cancers these days one being my sister who had been diagnosed with Hodgkinson Lymphoma not long ago 😔 we need the new world that’s for sure.

Please convey our best wishes thank you

One of my daughters is suffering with bone marrow/blood cancer. She is on chemo in the form of a pill.

Now she's developed skin cancer, 2 different kinds, one worse than the other.

Her doctor told her that it was the chemo that caused the skin cancers..now she needs surgery for them..

I haven't a clue what is appropriate but we can pray for him to get what Jehovah 'knows' is better under his circumstances.

So the specter of religious discrimination is being raised.

Satan and the system under his control really are wicked aren't they. Their wickedness is no match for Jehovah though. what is true is that Jehovah often uses these occasion to reach people that could not be under other circumstances. we do not know how Jehovah is using our dear brother, right now.

When I was in hospital some years ago.. acute anaemia and they could not detect the problem over 11 days; with seemingly endless (very uncomfortable) investigations/tests. along with nil by mouth all through that. for the first 7 days a nurse what very hostile to me.. shaking me roughly to wake me up in the middle of the night to take blood pressure.. very curt! I never said what I really wanted to say in return.. I was just pleasant to her.. Then one night she woke me again and just asked me 'had I always been a Jehovah's witness? That was a long conversation and she was totally different to me after that. Even now I do not know why it changed.

Other things happened like talking to long term blood transfused people (2 years for one person. regular total blood change) she would never have met any witnesses out of that environment. She was at a point where the transfusions were getting her down rather than her seeing them as treatment... I just 'happened to be there' at the right time for her to be open about it.

I look back and can see 'only good had come from my illness'. It tested me too. having to rely on Jehovah as I had never done before.

I only mention these things because we often look to Jehovah to remove every issue immediately;  which is natural. He uses all kinds of situations to his glory and it is can be emboldening to know we're being used that way. Who knows what help Jehovah is giving him right now.. a cure is not the only thing Jehovah could do. Being realistic in these situation can be helpful.. Some things require the NS but that does not mean Jehovah doesn't care about us. There is too much evidence to the contrary for that conclusion.

If so, I would expect that this Brother will not let that pass unchallenged. Not for his own sake but for any who need such Hospital services in the future.

This may well bring other things into perspective for the staff... Some believe we are totally passive with treatment or don't care about our own bodies.. I don't know.

We can pray for the best for our brother, whatever the outcome.

Do you know what his blood count is down to?  We just had a very dear brother pass away from leukemia. He was spiritually strong right to the end. He fought the fine fight and come out victorious .  His blood count went down to the low 40's.

One day, no one will say " I am sick" . The best thing to do is visit him and strengthen him and his family spiritually.

The one showing favor to the lowly is lending to Jehovah

After my first childbirth I lost so much blood due to the incompetence of my doctor that my blood count went down to 6..I was not in the Truth at the time and given 2 transfusions..I had severe migraines for the next 20+ years and could not heal my incisions. I also lost the next pregnancy at 3 1/2 months..there are more than spiritual reasons for not mixing someone else's blood with yours and Jehovah knows it is for our own benefit..

Cancer is a dreadful disease.

A year ago I got diagnosed with colon cancer after the initial shock I studied very carefully ways in which to cure it. The one thing that stood out in my mind is there is no cure for cancer (they say), the chemo therapies and radiotherapy are both known to cause cancer (read the leaflet in the chemo therapy packet) so its said they may extend how long you live but very few people (relatively) seem to have been cured. Many of my friends and relatives have died of cancer and all went down the chemo route recommended by the doctors so I sought out alternative ways of battling this disease. A sister on this forum mentioned a guy who has a website and a very active youtube page Chrisbeatcancer.com, I listened to all he had to say and the many people (interviewed on his youtube page videos) that had cured themselves using the same method as Chris (who had colon cancer diagnosed in his early twenties) and a few medical doctors who also promote very similar methods.

I followed the advice Chris gave exactly and the result now 12 months later is (having had a second colonoscopy) the actual words from the doctor who carried out both colonoscopy's "I don't know what you are doing but whatever it is keep doing it and come back and see me in five years time!" it is completely gone!

It's also very simple, its all about what we eat/drink or what we put into our body. I now live on a plant based diet (mainly organic) and have nothing that is animal based and no dairy no sugar and no alchohol and nothing highly processed. People keep telling me how well I look (61 years old) and I must admit I have a lot more energy also, we really are what we eat.

Love his little saying "If food originates from something with a face and a mother don't eat it"

Hope this might help someone else.

Thank you sister and thank you Jehovah

At present our brother has a HGB above 6. And subtlety rising. However , the core problem now is that the Chemo being administered is probably not effective or curative. Only palliative. The hospital has elected to not treat him for purposes of curing him and just try to end him home . The HLC and our brother both are seeking other arrangements. I see it increasingly likely that a lawsuit will be waged over this.

So far hgb has remained in the 6’s , normal is 12-14. Their have been no cases of Jehovah’s people having died from blood loss where their hgb was greater than 5 .  Some known to me have recovered from hgb in the 2’s without transfusion.

Update : our Brother has had a drop in his blood counts ( not just Hemoglobin but also platelets) this is to be expected at this juncture. At the current treating facility it is a problem. ( they simply don’t think outside their box ) . The NP ( nurse practitioner) has said that if he has another nosebleed their only treatment option is to transfuse ( not true) . The clotting factors found in blood are fractions which are available as a treatment for bleeding episodes in hemophilia. Nonetheless prayers are needed : specifically that knowledge and wisdom on how to treat this hiccup will dawn in their minds. And be applied.  Next week our Brother is expected to be accepted at a world class facility. One that has a reputation for working with the non blood community.

update: hgb 4.5 today but still not needing supplemental 02 except when walking. Platelets still a problem requiring some care: receiving a clotting factor and vitamin k injection as well as B12 IV. Expecting to start new Chemo regimen soon ( probably Monday after second bone marrow biopsy).

So sorry to hear this!

At one point during a sickness my blood levels dropped to a 4. I explained to my doctor that I wouldn't accept blood transfusions, but instead of chiding me she was excited and said "Cool! You're my first JW who needs a blood transfusion. They taught us what to do about this in medical school." She told me I'd be in the hospital for about a week on a constant drip of ferrous sulfate (iron) and that over time (with bed rest) my blood levels would raise on their own. It did indeed take about a week, but at the time of leaving my blood levels raised to a 10 and after fighting my infection I was sent home better than ever.

Never forget that Jehovah is watching and never forgets it when you take a stand for His name. Please send my love to our dear brother!

Keep your blood levels up. Dont let them drop before you do something.
We had my son on juices and vitamins. They sent like you on vit but to be honest they are not used to no blood. So do it anyway.
Take folic acid as well as vit C, B1, B3 and D. These are building blocks for stem cells. Stem cells become whatever blood types your body needs (in very layman's terms)

Dont be too worried by numbers. Some Drs will want to transfuse at 100 or 10 depending on what part of the world you are Keep your blood levels up. Dont let them drop before you do something.

My sons got down to 30 or 3
He was walking around at 45 but on oxygen and in bed at 30.
My son had 0 platelets for 4 days. Drs were gobsmacked he had NO symptoms.
So dont stress

Also minimised blood loss. That includes All the blood tests.
Insist on a pediatric vile. They only need .5 of a mil to to a CBC (complete blood test) we refused to let then take any more than a mil.
When you loss 5-10 mil a day and they decide to test  you twice daily that is alot of blood loss for someone who needs it badly.

Start iron transfusions early if needed. Dont wait till it's a critical level. DRs are used to bandaid treatments.... we are trying to AVOID a crisis.

If you have any questions please pm me. I must admit I knew ALOT when my son went through this. I became obsessed. But have tried to forget most of it as it holds no pleasant memories and I have panic attacks now if I think too much of that time.

My prayers for the brother and his family. It was the worst time of our lives honestly.

Oh... my advice. One thing the drs where amazed with also was my son was hardly in hospital with infections. This meant less medication that meant less bloods crashing.
So.stay well. Avoid people who are sick. Use alcohol wipes everywhere. Be OCD about it. DO not go to public places such as malls, hospital waiting rooms or public transport.

Much love
Xxx

I know the struggle to get them to think outside the box. Always fighting with PROTOCOL.
My prayers are with you. Please get them to insist on Pediatric files for blood tests. It really helps with the constant testing.

Hi  Fiona.. it was from the heart and out concern.. That's always nice!

I recognise the various issues you brought up. Doctors can prone to telling you rather than informing and also following blindly the levels they were taught. Ego has a place too unfortunately.  I once went through 11 days of testing and all the while, the doctors kept asking me questions but not listening to the answers.. only to find the Doctor say

'I'll be annoyed if this turns out to be diet related' I wasn't annoyed at all.. couldn't wait to get out of there. They sent me home with some med.

3 weeks later i had to go back on a follow up visit. It was really to do another test. I mentioned that the tablets had not suited me but I decided to try a diet change and informed the consultant that I felt a lot better and explained what i had tried. Energy well up etc. He had the blood test from 3 days earlier in front of him. My blood count went from 4.9 to 11.5 and the doctor said with a patronising tone.. it is still low.

They wanted the magic 12 and ignored the improvement accomplished in just 2 weeks.  It can be hard in these circumstances to give the doctor the dignity he deserves and getting the treatment you want.

Prayer is always good in these circumstances.. whether to be calm, ask the right questions, guidance or simply be at peace.

Update: the current treating facility is actually treating and not just saying that they are. They are doing a minimal draw protocol ( as suggested above using pediatric vials for CBC). They have also begun Iron and Epopoetin to encourage production of HGB .  As well as the IV Vitamins.  The previous facility simply did none of these things .
