Watchtower Library on DVD

Recommended Posts

Yes.  My Windows 10 is up to date and I tried the manual update a couple a' times.  It failed, telling me to make sure I didn't have any other 'instances' of Watchtower Library running...

A strange way to say 'versions' ?

Some people said there were more than one upgrade packages available for download. I only saw the one 2.3GB one that I downloaded. If you see more than one, maybe try downloading a different one?

A strange way to say 'versions' ?  :D

Years ago (prior to the 2015 edition), there were instances of the installation failing if the previous edition was not fully uninstalled.  This was especially true if you had say a 2010 version and a 2012 version both on the hard drive.  I used to do a generic "search" for any place the word "watchtower" existed on my computer.  It was amazing the places and levels the program had infiltrated.  Once removed the installation went smoothly.  Our new files seem to remove all those instances that are needed by themselves but maybe there is some open file being held in some obscure place that is the problem.

Perhaps you may have to DL the full WTL.exe install program from scratch?

No, unfortunately it is not only waste of time but also you will loose the newest update that worked (you are back in April again).

It's better to wait for our brothers in the computer departement. I'm sure they are aware of this issue.

The file is huge. I didn't get nervous until I applied the package and the update status bar sat at 0% for several minutes. It did finally start indicating that it was updating and finally finished about a glass of wine later.

Thank you. Brother Richard. This worked well.

When the auto-update didn't work on mine ... I found I had to reboot the PC to install the update manually. Otherwise I also got the message of "instances" running. Those instances are not "versions", they are pieces of code still running in the background.

At what stage of the manual installation did you reboot?

I rebooted BEFORE I did the manual update - AFTER I got the message that "instances" were still running when I tried the auto-update

Came here because like many of you had the same problem with automatic update as well as generating an update package using the WT Lib app. Alway the same error message can't update make sure no other WT Lib applications are running. Never had this before and as someone mentioned the problem may be in obtaining the update package through the application.

Finally succeeded by downloading the update package directly from JW.ORG named lyu_E.updatepkg. Shut down the PC, restarted the PC, opened the WT Lib app and went through the manual updating process by using the lyu_E.updatepkg package and it finally succeeded.

Downloading the complete package from JW.ORG is a must and the link is in this thread posted by Brother Richard. From the properties page of the downloaded update package:

Name: lyu_E.updatepkg
Size: 2.84 GB (3,051,710,659 bytes)
Date: 5/31/2020

I also had the 2015 version still on my PC though in a separate directory under "C:\Program Files (x86)\Watchtower\Watchtower Library (2015)" I uninstalled that before downloading the package and rebooting it. It maybe worthwhile to check the "C:\Program Files (x86)\Watchtower\" directory if there is an additional installation and then uninstall it. It was good to see that in case of re-installation that this can also be done directly from JW.ORG.

If nothing changes and the error still pops up, then I guess patience is needed and checking this thread for further development.

Me too and it worked perfectly on all my PCs. But the 2.8 GB version has to be.

My PC desktop and my Windows Surface 3 tablet all update the WT Library without any problem the first time each.  They updated about 15 hours apart and it just took 15 minutes or so.  I will dig out my 17" Windows Laptop and try that one and report back.  None of mine needed any download from JW.ORG for manual updating or installing.

Once the error occurred on my PC - I tried to use the d/l update package but had trouble running WTL. I uninstalled WTL - rebooted the PC - and reinstalled WTL. Then applied the update because the WLT install .iso does not contain the update.

It all went smooth when I used the manual update package on my other PC.

Only my windows surface tablet pc has the update. My other windows 10 pc devices will not apply the update as provided currently. I have uninstalled the program and re installed it and tried the download update and the create install package update and it does not work.

I think it is too large of a download all at one time to install in older pc's. I have tried to stop my anti virus package during  installation of the update and still does not work.

I kind of wish there was a 2 or 3 stage update process from the base dvd rom program.

I tried it again today for the sixth day in a row on my pc, and to my surprise, it manually applied the update package instead of giving me the "failed" message. I have it set up to update automatically, as I always had, so let's see what happens in the future. Things are looking up!  :ecstatic:

It has taken me several tries too.

I downloaded the iso from jw.org but didn’t have any idea how to use it. When I did finally get to the .exe file, it would not update - nor find any data!

At last it downloaded, I set it as a virtual drive and ran autorun - then it installed, but would not update!
I downloaded the update package from jw.org and tried manually.  For a long time it just hung at 0% but in the end it worked!

Well, well, well. It took me From Sunday to today-Friday- to figure this out.

Go to the jw.org website for ones having this problem like I had and get the update from this website and don't rely on what the wtlib progam prompts as the update the program internally.

It seems to work on my 10 year old toshiba tecra laptop.

After downloading there is a slight difference in overall size of the jw.org download of the update and what the wt library program downloads. I guess its not the same file or same server that the jw,.org is getting.

Don't be like me and wait many days to figure it out if you don't want the frustration I have had on why it does not work.

Go here:

https://www.jw.org/en/online-help/watchtower-library/install-watchtower-library/

and follow the directions.

As I am typing the progress is finished and no error message. I would suggest to download the jw.org update file onto a usb storage if you have multiple win 10 devices like I have.

Problem: I'm having this issue for the last couple of weeks...

When I start Watchtower Library, it hesitates about 15 seconds before it actually allows me to do anything. It just shows the header and a white background below where all the publications are supposed to show up. If I click on the program anywhere before the end of the 15 seconds, it says this...

I have the English and French versions of Watchtower Library installed, and they both play the same waiting game. I've tried uninstalling and installing again, and I've also tried with just one version installed. But no difference. (My English edition works fine on my old laptop running Windows 7.) Anyone else suffering from this anomaly?

No, not on my desktop PC nor on my laptop.  Version 19.0 build 7632 Update 2002  works great.  It opens in less than 1-2 seconds each time.  Sorry.
