The Mysterious Coronavirus Spreading Worldwide

Super Bowl? Really? They allowed that to go ahead in these times???

(Groan) 🙄

However, they have allowed Melbourne to host the first Grand Slam of the tournament, The Australian Open, and this has raised some questions.

“It's more than a reasonable question to ask why Victorians in NSW and Queensland, where new cases are measured in single digits, couldn't come home but a tennis player from Great Britain, where nearly 50,000 cases a day are being recorded, could fly here.

By some, it is viewed as a venal decision that puts celebrity tennis stars at the front of the queue ahead of them.”

Authorities here are strict compared to US, UK and Europe. But when it comes to economics, public health is ready to be risked and jettisoned. Melbourne has already had issues with quarantine staff being infected by tennis personnel, and this could lead to community transmission . The last time that happened, over 800 died. 😔.

Well technically they only had a small number of fans at the stadium and they were socially distanced.

The problem came in others gathering to watch the game and then we’ve heard reports of crowds pouring into the street in celebration.

The virus that causes COVID-19 probably jumped from animals to humans and is “extremely unlikely” to have come from a laboratory, the head of an international team investigating the origins of the disease said on Tuesday.

Most virologists and biologists agree that the virus probably came from a bat, said Michelle Baker, a bat immunologist at CSIRO's Australian Centre for Disease Preparedness.

"Bats are known to be reservoirs for coronaviruses, and many other viruses," she said.

"Now, I think it's pretty good agreement that this [SARS-CoV-2] virus is likely to have come from a bat."

Despite reporting last night from China that thousands of swabs taken from bats had, so far, tested negative to SARS-CoV-2, the WHO-China investigative team said work to identify the origins of the coronavirus pointed to a natural reservoir in bats.

It is clear from our analysis that viruses closely related to SARS-CoV-2 have been circulating in horseshoe bats for many decades. The unsampled diversity descended from the SARS-CoV-2/RaTG13 common ancestor forms a clade of bat sarbecoviruses with generalist properties—with respect to their ability to infect a range of mammalian cells—that facilitated its jump to humans and may do so again. Although the human ACE2-compatible RBD was very likely to have been present in a bat sarbecovirus lineage that ultimately led to SARS-CoV-2, this RBD sequence has hitherto been found in only a few pangolin viruses.

Poor bats, I hope they get clean in the NW!

Animalations 3:13-15 - "And look, I saw the creature of the night, the black winged creature endowed with fangs and claws, it stood in streams of hot waters, washed with oils which the people of those times called 'shower gel & shampoo 2 in 1 combo', and it did sing out joyfully as its uncleaness fell from its furs into the depths of caverns, of which the people of those times called 'the drain. Then behold it shook and wiggled as a material of wool and linen was wrapped around it. A blast of wind, with the heat of the desert plains of Egypt blew away the remaing water which was upon it, this wind they called in those times 'a hair dryer'. And so then was the bat was declared clean, and Jehovah declared it 'very good'".

Breaking News: C.D.C. research finds that tightly fitted masks, or doubling up with both cloth and surgical masks, could reduce virus transmission by up to 96.5%.

They are as Jehovah created them.

But a good bath doesn't hurt.

They have an amazing immune system that basically never turns off it’s interferon response and yet doesn’t develop auto-immune diseases. It hosts a multitude of bacteria in its gut to manufacture the vitamins it may not get from diet; especially the blood sucking bats.

This article talks about vampire bats. However, bats all have the same interferon response due to its high viral load, and yet survives amazingly. The problem lies when a intermediary animal, less able to fight off bugs gets infected, and humans have close contact with them. This was the case with civet cats in crowded wet markets in China during SARS-Cov in 2003, and the Hendra virus in Australia in the 1990s transmitted through horses to humans from the host receptor flying fox bats.

WHO foreign expert Peter Ben Embarek said identifying the animal pathway remains a "work in progress", adding the absence of bats in the Wuhan area dimmed the likelihood of direct transmission.

It was "most likely" to have come from an intermediary species, he said, before backing up China's position that there was no evidence of "large outbreaks in Wuhan" before December when the first official cases have been recorded.

Liang Wannian, head of the China side of the joint mission, said animal transmission remained the likely route, but "the reservoir hosts remain to be identified".

Roche arthritis drug reduces COVID-19 deaths in trial in hospitalised patients

LONDON - Roche’s arthritis drug tocilizumab cuts the risk of death among patients hospitalised with severe COVID-19, also shortening the time to recovery and reducing the need for mechanical ventilation, results of a large trial showed on Thursday.

I woke up feeling lousy, slight headache, slight sore throat and somewhat listless,  Being a card carrying hypochondriac I was very concerned. I made it to breakfast before telling my wife that I was coming down with something, I didn't mention the 'C' word. My wife's response "Of course you feeling poorly, you  got your vaccine yesterday."

Oops, I had forgotten.

You can probably tell I am of the senior, senior group.

I feel better already.

U.S. still hasn't ruled out lab accident origin for Covid because China hasn't been transparent

WASHINGTON — Despite a finding by the World Health Organization that the Covid-19 outbreak in China most likely first infected humans  through an animal host, the United States is still not ruling out the possibility of a laboratory accident, as officials continue to sort through intelligence about the Chinese government’s initial handling of the outbreak, American and Western officials told NBC News.

A spokesman for the Office of the Director of National Intelligence told NBC News the agency is standing by a public statement it issued in April, which said that that American intelligence agencies "will continue to rigorously examine emerging information and intelligence to determine whether the outbreak began through contact with infected animals or if it was the result of an accident at a laboratory in Wuhan."
