what a great article and timely.

I loved this:

Quote

No. Jehovah’s Witnesses are not opposed to vaccination. We view vaccination as a personal decision for each Christian to make. Many of Jehovah’s Witnesses choose to get vaccinated.

We seek quality medical care and appreciate the many advancements of medical science to reduce the risk of serious illness. We are grateful for the commitment and dedication of health-care professionals, especially in times of crises.

Simple.

I'm happy to hear that. However, you may still be susceptible to COVID.

Oh I had my Covid vaccination several months ago. This was a shingles vaccination. Covid isn't the only show in town....😁

shingles vaccination

I should get mine too now that it is finally free for seniors 😁. My wife will have to wait over a year.

A lot of things that were free now costs - even eye exams - optometrist are pulling out of provincial health care. $$$$$$

WoW!

Has there been a charge for the vaccine in the Canada?

You have socialised medicine and you have to pay?

In the US, highly opposed to socialised medicine, the jab has been free from the start.

I had shingles over my left eye several years ago and nearly lost the eye. The pain is intense and can do permanent nerve damage. I was happy to get the vaccine.

I got both of my shingles shots - just last year (in the midst of this pandemic). I turned 52 and then 6 months later got it. My brother and mother both had shingles. I figured it was just a matter of time for me.

It's interesting how it was and is a 2 shot vaccine as well. They updated it a few years back to be even more affective.

It will be interesting to see what comes of the COVID one.

note: 10 years ago when we went to Vietnam we had to get 3 or 4 shots I never had. I don't remember what for now and about 3 years ago the college required proof of all the childhood ones MMR, etc. I had to get my titers checked for them - yep, still immune decades later.

I just had my first if two mRNA Shingles shot a week ago.  Arm was more sore than with the Maderna vaccine as well as a low grade headache.  Good signs that it is working.

The old Shingles vaccine was made from a live virus and is only 50% effective. The new mRNA is 95% effective.

No. We don't have to pay for the vaccine, and we don't pay for the regular annual flu vaccine either. Peter was referring specifically to the shingles vaccine.

As for who pays for what in medical care, it depends on which province of the country we live in. It's been a long time since I lived in Ontario, where @pnutts lives. So I am not sure what's covered there and what's not these days. Here in the province of Quebec, we all carry a government-issued medical insurance card, which gets you into any doctor's office for free, including optometrists and most specialists. Not dentists or chiropractors though. I've been here for 34 years, so I've gotten used to that arrangement.

I wasn't able to get my second shingles vax last year (no insurance). :( Do you think I need just one more or do I need to start over? 🤔

If 95% of or even 50% of the Branch's Bethelites refused the vaccine, could the Branch really come out with this article? I think it would raise a few eyebrows.

Have i missed something? Is there an assumption that high numbers of Bethelites are choosing to not be vaccinated? I really doubt the unvaccinated there would be incredibly small. The Branch has very clear what’s expected on our part … personal decision yes … but if we have our perceptive powers tuned in I sense a clear expectation.

The actual Bethel numbers were given by Br. Herd today.  98% Bethel members vaccinated in US branch and 50% total world-wide Bethel vaccinations (so far).

Thanks! I just watched the update. Likely many countries where Branch facilites exist dint yet have the vaccine available. 98% in the US Bethel is huge.

Think about this ... the Update said that in-person meetings were allowed with those fully vaccinated and they showed a picture of the entire GB meeting together around a table - that would seem to indicate the 100% of the GB are vaccinated

When the Bethel rules are applied, the only people allowed in the meeting or at dinner had to be 100% vaccinated.  Everyone else (the other 2%) would have to watch on zoom and eat by themselves in their respective rooms.

They haven’t been meeting every Wednesday this past year? You could  meet in groups under 10 prior to the vaccine.

I took that to mean they had been having meeting through Zoom or other videoconferencing software. I think they may have not met physically even if the laws allowed in order to be safe.

It is of interesting notice by the way, that whether using Zoom for such classified meeting would be appropriate was seriously considered by the governments around the world. So it is possible Zoom was chosen by GB for this reason.

Branch standards are stricter. They have been meeting, only not in person.
