We've been wating for bibles at our double Kingdom Hall (which is shared by six congregtions) for many months - I've resorted to buying NWT bibles in good condition from a local charity organisation which holds a giant 3-day 'BookFest' in our area every six months, and I also trawl the second-hand shops.   So they cost me $2 each, the price isnt worth worrying about, but at least we've been able to place them with bible students.   I've also picked up heaps of older publications (even one of the 'Studies in the Scriptures' - yay).   It helps that I'm a second-hand shop junkie, cant go past one without stopping.   Its amazing what people throw out.

  • 2 weeks later...

A brother in my hall works closely with the US Branch.  He shared some information with us last week in service.  Apparently there are changes in the works for the NWT.  There are some refinements to the translation from Hebrew/Greek into English.  Brother Jackson focuses a lot of his attention to Bible translation, since that's the department he was in before joining the Governing Body.

So, stay tuned.  It's safe to say that if this was only a glue issue that we'd have it resolved well before now.  How hard is it to find glue?

Phillipians 4:8 Finally, brothers, whatever things are true, whatever things are of serious concern, whatever things are righteous, whatever things are chaste, whatever things are lovable, whatever things are well-spoken-of, whatever things are virtuous, and whatever things are praiseworthy, continue considering these things.

When we had our co visit in March, he commented that many of the friends have asked about Bibles. He said there's a much greater need for bibles in other languages as opposed to English, as it is in these “foreign” languages where the greatest increase of new ones are. He said the concentration has been on meeting the needs in those languages.

Last year when Guy Pierce from the Governing Body visited our circuit assembly he showed us a light grey leather Bible that they were "trying out" to see how durable it is. Interesting.

Interesting indeed!

Maybe its just because we are printing so much literature for the foreign field.

Our Circuit Overseer has asked us to return any viable spares we have to the Kingdom Hall, to alieviate any shortage our Brothers have locally

I heard the same thing. Yes, there are mopre literature printed for the foign field.

I noticed that the Bible featured on the cover of the October 1 WT is a NWT with a light grey cover with ribbon and edge spotting. It also appears to be a Reference Bible. Is this the new NWT?

It could be one that someone had rebound, but you never know.

Zeph 3:17 Jehovah your God is in the midst of you. As a mighty One, he will save. He will exult over you with rejoicing. He will become silent in his love. He will be joyful over you with happy cries....... Love it....a beautiful word picture.

I wish it was a clearer close-up of the cover. If it says, "Holy Bible," it's most likely is a custom bound NWT. If it says, "Holy Scriptures," I think we have a winner! :D

I find it interesting that in that WT edition of October, if you look at the 1st picture of the Bible Psalms is spelled in English.

But if you go on in the WT to the next picture of the Bible, it looks like the writing is Spanish or French if you flip the picture upside down. I could see the word "Por Que" but I'm not sure what language that is. Lol ^_^

ok this the best I can do I had a 400 mm 5.6  at 1600 iso no flash at about 150.ft.... if i was thinking about his bible I could of got closer or brought my 8" diamiter telescope ...that would look really cool..

... it does say something ... .........Holy Scriptures .....I don't think it says  New world translation of the holy scriptures..it seems there are two comple lines of text above holy scriptures...

It looks a little taller than normal...  with cross references...but not a RBi8

Nice catch!

By the photo detail it doesn't seem to be any rebound (or then it was a complete cover exchange)

Also, you can check the page 710 and see if it matches with the image (I have only a portuguese version)

the first line of text is compatible with "New World Translation" - 3 words about the same size

It's interesting indeed :)

we had a brother give a talk a couple of weeks ago... he had a large regerence sized... soft cover possibly grey ( dont think it had an added cover) and the edges of the pages were sort of mottled. didnt get a chance for a closer look.... is there a chance that some of the new bibles ( allegedly) are being used by some brothers to get some feedback? sounds strange and i may well be wide of the mark. :-)

Yes Lance, that's what I meant. If it was the same bible with different cover we would have the same information on that location of the bible

David, the pics I posted were just to show this:

-The page 710 (I think there is no doubt on this number)

-The chapter on page 711 (It's definitely Psalms but the number in front is not perfectly clear, but I would say with some confidence that it's the 34 first (notice the big "3" on the pic bellow

- the way the cover is bounded to the pages. Doesn't look like a posterior work

Don't these custom bookbinders just remove the old cover anyway? Maybe I missed something.

At any rate, I am curious to see what happens at the annual meeting. If something is released then, everyone finds out at the same time, whereas with the conventions, they are spread over months and so the potential for spoilers.
