It is alarming that things are the worse they have ever been, and yet some brothers who 10-20 years ago thought the end was imminent, now push it yet another 20-30 years into the future. I think Chrome has an issue with the latest update to shockwave player. Mine also started not displaying videos so I uninstalled the latest version of Adobe flash player and installed the previous one and all is well now.

Go here and let it test your shockwave installation and then let it do whatever update it wants to. See if that helps. You may have to close Chrome and re-open when it's finished and they won't tell you that.
