Victoria's post about JW being an "American religion" above reminded me that Greek Orthodox have always used that to attack us witnesses here in Australia too.  I imagine in Greece it would be the  same.  In Sydney in the area where I got the truth, there were 3 Greek Orthodox churches in our territory (very "devout" area).  One of them was on a corner, and had a huge poster showing the Greek Priest kicking out a cowboy-ish looking "witness" holding literature back to the map of America.  We were told that a lot at the doors.

I remember seeing in another post Putin mixing it with the Greek Patriarchs, as they share a common religion - Ortho (meaning "right") Doxy ("religion"). Same tactics used in both countries by fanatics of ritual and superstitious control.

Interesting ... so one of the extremist views that qualifies a group to be considered extremist is that they think they are right and act with superiority over others. (I believe - correct me if I'm wrong on that)

So being an Orthodox means exactly that.

I think THE CHURCH has been working on this ban for a long time and now it has enough power to make it happen. The article reminded me that JWs in Russia NEVER had an easy life, always being called an " american cult" and even " american spies". But now the Bethel can be seized! It is really bad!

Remember, in the scriptures, every time Jehovah stood up for his people in a fierce way was when they either a. threatened to wipe out his people or b. Directly challenged him with taunts or words.

Take comfort in that ... He has noticed.

Funnily enough Luezette I get those looks too ... I bound (sometimes alittle too enthusiastically I guess) up to brothers and sisters and talk about current events, this letter campaign being the latest ... and I don't get enthusiasm back and I go away thinking I'm making too much of this - is it wrong of me to be excited to see Jehovah working on his peoples behalf?

I am like this too.  Here I am all excited and enthusiastic and others are just carrying on as normal like nothing has changed.  I guess that's why we need the forum .. we all get excited on here and no one thinks it odd.  Or if they do they just don't comment.

Don't give up .. it's just around the corner.

Much the same here. A few took it serious, but most wrote a letter, maybe. Over 21 hundred from our members and I think this underestimated.

I have made a last minuet youtube video open letter to Russia, in the small hopes that it will be seen in the next couple of days, simply to move them into seeing that we are authentic and do love each other and others to the point that even last minuet efforts are put in. And I have even mentioned such in the open letter.

Whether it is seen or unseen, I leave it in Jehovah's hand.

I made sure to disable comments to prevent apostate rubbish coming up, they lurk the internet like a plague of locusts.  This is not my main channel, but an alternative one with no content.

Well done Matthew! You can't disable comments here tho :D.

Some might think it goes over and above what we were asked to do, but this is just  your own personal extra bit, according to how your heart impels you, and with comments disabled is much better than the fadish hashtags going around on twitter. I like this more personal appeal, it's meaningful and sincere.

Yeah, I'd definitely disable the comments for an uploaded vid on YouTube.

I did not know exactly where to put this and I did not want to sully any Russia letter-writing thread,  but among what I call "The Liar-Wire", many are complaining about the timing of the Russian issue, because it will (if it hasn't already) completely overshadow the ARC and make Witnesses sympathetic figures in the eyes of the public.

Historically, we do well after any real or perceived persecution, this being no exception. People who would have otherwise not cared about us, will look into us to see what makes us "extremists" and when they find nothing, only then when their hearts open to the truth, and we can talk to them.

By this being a religious freedom issue which concerns all countries on the planet, this would be bigger than the ARC anyway, a part of me can't help to wonder if the timing of this was deliberate. That part of me believes Jehovah waited until the ARC ran its course to completion, THEN simply allowed Russia to attempt to ban us so that this can dominate news about us.

In essence, apostates fired all their bullets and their guns are now empty, while Jehovah saved his bullets for when they counted.

Speaking of apostasy, I have also prayed regularly for Jehovah to bless the campaign and to protect it from apostate corruption. No doubt many apostates are aware and will attempt to send Russia many nasty or threatening letters to Putin, under the guise of being Witnesses.

I actually saw some videos (I didn't watch them) in which the titles were encouraging their fellow apostates to send letters to Russia as a part of their own campaign to counter ours, either by saying a bad word about us, or what I already said in regards to pretending to be in the truth and making us look like bad, aggressive or fanatical people.

I just want to add that singing in English doesn't mean they are not in Russia. There are more than 100 languages spoken in Russia. There are English congregations in big cities.

The video cilip at the end of the 'Russia' video is on youtube from a few years ago and it was a flashmob of JW's in a tourist area of UK singing to tourists outside a Roman Baths in the city of Bath. The person who cribbed it to use on the end of the video will have known where they got this as it is properly described at the beginning of the Youtube video - the bit at the end of this  is what has been cribbed. We would not be following proper guidelines to sing outside Government buildings. it would be foolish and disrespectful:

I saw something similar myself, but the Russian Government can read the instruction sheet we were given which would directly contradict the content of those letters, and so can the entire world. That's a risky move for them. We already know they're liars, but then the whole world will know they're liars too.

A letter basically dissenting from our explicit instructions and that is out of character when compared to the millions sent, would only raise red flags in the minds of rational thinkers anyway.

II went to Greece with my husband and 2 other sisters as part of a coach-touring holiday of the country a few years ago.

We saw the local brothers  standing outside an American army base at Glyfada holding up some magazines and offering them to passersby in various languages. Across the road we saw a bunch of young Greek Orthodox priests in their long black robes looking menacing just over the street from the brothers. When we approached our brothers, this bunch started to cross the road towards us as if to stand in between us and our brothers. We called out "Hi" to our brothers and they backed off.

We chatted to our brothers and left them and walked further on. Later, we met with the American soldier who was stood at the gate to the army base behind the brothers. He told us that the brothers were allowed to stand there because the American army protected them. There are far too many young men in Greece training as priests. Far more than are needed in  parishes there. The Greek Orthodox Church is paid for and part of the national Civil Service and as jobs were diminishing and the Greek economy was shrinking, many were going into the preist-hood for job security. However, too many trainee priests, meant too many on the streets with nothing better to do than gather in gangs and intimidate people - especially the JW's.

He told us that there were parts of Athens where gangs of priests hung around that he would not encourage tourists to visit as they could be mugged!

He  said that If the gang of priests got too intimidating then the JW's in Glyfada had permission to be allowed through the US Army checkpoint for their safety. The soldiers all knew we were peaceable law-abiding people and were sorry about how we were treated and wanted to protect them.
