The Mysterious Coronavirus Spreading Worldwide

Recommended Posts

There is the potential now for it to start getting very bad for younger ones now. It seems the new variation that is in South Africa (and spotted in two individuals in the UK) that is faster to spread and is making young healthy people very ill. Bad enough that the instructions are to immediately isolate if you have returned or come from South Africa in the last two weeks. No waiting for symptoms.

I only hope the vaccines will be useful against these new variations. I also hope they are wrong and just being over cautious. Maybe time for all to now take it serious.

Travel restrictions with South Africa have been imposed.

Anyone who has travelled there in the past fortnight, and anyone they have been in contact with, are being told to quarantine immediately.

The variant has been causing mounting concern in South Africa, where health minister Zweli Mkhize warned that "young, previously healthy people are now becoming very sick".

Clinicians have been providing anecdotal evidence of a shift in the clinical epidemiological picture- in particular noting that they are seeing a larger proportion of younger patients with no co-morbidities presenting with critical illness. #SARSCOV2MediaBriefing

At the Downing Street press briefing, Mr Hancock said the new variant was "highly concerning" and that anyone told to quarantine must avoid "all contact with any other person whatsoever".

Every cloud has a silver lining, even being in lock down has it's upside.  We can't go shopping in the usual manner. We haven't been to a mall or to a major store such as target in months. We are not bombarded by Xmas carols and this holiday season I do not catch myself humming Xmas songs. :D

I am not sying I am Superman, I am only saying that nobody has ever seen Superman  and me in a room together.

I did a Zoom bible Tour today and stayed after in a breakout room with 3 other sisters, 1 from DC, one from Ohio and one from The Hamptons. We visited for about 30 minutes, they told stories of how they're covering their territory like they never have before, how progressive the work is, how so many inactive are coming back, how many studies from phone calling is producing studies, how the brotherhood feels closer than ever, how witnesses worldwide are getting to know each other personally and making such good friendships that plans, after Covid, are being made to visit other states or countries. Yes, we definitely have an upside here!!

Interesting discovery by a mouthwash company in Brazil:

Quote

https://actascientific.com/ASDS/pdf/ASDS-04-0991.pdf

A Recommendation of PHTALOX® Mouthwash for Preventing Infection and
Progression of COVID-19

The mouth has a significant role when it comes to the transmission
process of SARS - CoV-2. This happens due to the spread
of small droplets which makes the oral and oropharynx mucosa
easy targets for the virus [1]. Therefore, the oral cavity is directly
associated with the evolutionary process of SARS-CoV-2 in the inhalation
of environmental particles in the air and in the sputum,
because it can also be transmitted through saliva [2].

This relation takes place due to the presence of Angiotensin-2
Enzyme on the oral mucosa, especially on the tongue and salivary
glands [3]. From this interaction, it is clear the viral load is related
to the severity of COVID-19. This evidence showed that an early
intervention to decrease the viral load intensity is necessary. The
mouth, nose and throat wash can eradicate the viral particles, reducing
the viral load in patients exposed to the virus [4].

The use of mouthwashes for gargling can help prevent and treat
respiratory infections in the upper and lower tracts [5]. Technological
rinses available on the market with antimicrobial action,
may have antiviral action [1]. In this sense, Meister., et al. [6] demonstrated
in the laboratory the capacity of some antiseptics in combating
SARS-CoV-2. Unfortunately, some of the technologies and
some types of mouthwash already tested have had no effect against
the new virus in clinical trials [7].

Functional dye is an archetypal of so-called photodynamic antimicrobials,
in which the combination of a sensitizing drug and visible
light causes selective destruction of viruses, bacteria and other
pathogens when applied to consumers or medical products [8].
Considering these findings, PHTALOX®, a bioactive functional
dye, promotes a self-activation and continuous production of reactive
oxygen in the presence of molecular oxygen. PHTALOX®
mouthwash has shown an antimicrobial activity associated with
the regeneration of soft tissues and reduction in gingival bleeding
[9].

This technology has already been approved by Brazilian
National Agency of Sanitary Monitoring due to its antiviral effect
against SARS-COV-2.

Gargling may be good for us. :D

Now that the US government has passed the stimulus package, I think it's only going to make more people want to go out and party like it's 1999, spreading the virus even more, especially the younger crowd!

It will make more people dependent on the government.

If anything, though, I think the vaccine will cause people to be less and less cautious because a cure is out here.

To be honest, personally, if I could buy inexpensive over the counter medication for COVID like I can the flu, my personal life would be totally back to normal.

I feel the flu coming on, I take TheraFlu, and have to stay in for a couple days.

I am willing to deal with that.

😲  Nobody is gonna party on $600. That's not even half of my rent... it's tragic, such a paltry sum after such a long time.  Of course it's better than nothing, but for people who have been struggling all year (I've been out of work since April), it doesn't add up to much relief. It's not really gonna "stimulate" anything.  :(

I really don't see how.  It's not like they are passing a monthly stimulus package.  This is another one-time stimulus for a relatively small amount in the grand scheme of things.

Well, if you look at it, they’re extending unemployment insurance, adding $300 to that, and issuing a $600 check.

So many, many people are making more just on the unemployment and the $300 alone than they were on their jobs. They’re being incentivized to not work.

This was an issue early on when some businesses couldn’t rehire their people after the first round of lockdowns were ending.

I was on unemployment once in my life - and I hated it and exhausted all options to get back into the workforce. It wasn’t paying what my job was.

So I was coming from that POV.

In a climate where properly paid work is scarce, it is a fine blessing to not be constantly worried how one will pay bills and keep a roof overhead.

@Bob I'm happy you've only been on unemployment once. It IS hateful and stressful.. I've been on it a bit more than once, sadly and it's not the luxury some people seem to think it is. I don't think most people are lazy bums who's only incentive to work is homelessness. That's not mine.

Agree. I was fortunate to get off of it. I do believe most people want to work as well.

It’s not about the money. It’s having meaning and self-worth. At that time my wife was working but I wasn’t.

I was ashamed and felt like a dog. I think most people feel like that when they’re collecting unemployment.

I don't feel like a dog.  I do feel worse when people look sideways at government benefits- even though I desperately want a job.

I don't have a spouse to help me, so you were quite fortunate. Being single, a great deal of my self-worth is tied up in how I can provide for myself- who wants to be a burden (plus deal with being alone 24/7)?  I've had to reduce it all to just the money in order to live and try to connect my meaning and self-worth to my spiritual activities. It is very sad to read the attitudes of some friends towards government assistance, however. 😐  I do need it to live, at this time. And I'll be grateful to Jehovah for the extra $300.

Yes. Government benefits has its place.

Y’know, one politician gave this really good speech about how to send money to the people, and he made good point when he said that the monies should be given to people like you who need it. My wife and I don’t need it at all. Not even the $600.

But the point is, we pay taxes, we pay into this, so yes, you have a right to it I would say.

So I would never look cock-eyed at the assistance.

We pay taxes so that when we find ourselves unemployed, it’s a safety net. Some do abuse it, but our brothers and sisters don’t. So there is no shame in claiming social security, and Jehovah will help us keep our mental and emotional balance, and never leaves us “looking for bread”. Social Security is that provision from Jehovah, while we do our bit to find work.

If you truly don't need the money, please feel free to let your local brothers know. You could donate it to whatever fund they may have to assist those in your congregation with greater need.

A couple of brothers showed up on my step this summer with $500 in an envelope from somewhere... you could make that possible for someone, too. :)

Oh I don’t mind that. I know of a couple brothers who could use it that I’ll contact.

thanks

Try being unemployed not once or twice how about 15 times plus, working in the auto industry ( 2 plants with Dana Corp. and 3 plants with GM ) plant closings and shift reductions, plus cable tv industry ( 3 years 2 different companies ) plus a self employed commercial vinyl wall covering installer, a trade I learned at 39 years old, relocating 5 times to 3 states and then back home again ( Michigan auto related ) then finally moved to here ( Tennessee  last 29 years ) all this while raising 4 children and a wife that seldom worked outside the house! We never went without a roof over our heads never missed a meal and always went to meetings and assemblies!

I think this is an interesting point. Several years back, I knew a couple who qualified for low income housing. But here's the thing. They were young, and had simply not taken the time or effort to study anything meaningful, acquire any skill, and instead had thought they would focus on pioneering. I was a bit shocked when they went to live in low income housing, while still pioneering, and yet saying they couldn't find a decent job. I find a lot of young pioneers are fixated on this mindset: "I refuse to work full-time, so I can pioneer" (which is fine) but then they accept government housing meant for people who are truly in need, not simply making voluntary choices that they know will put them in that situation. How can you in good conscience take away from others who have a true need, just because you have a want to pioneer?

Yeah I cannot relate to that. It really shows how Jehovah protects his people. In various ways!
