The ground squirrels wrecked my pond liner, so I spent a great part of the afternoon

It's illegal here for teachers to strike school students, though it never used to be as far back as the 1960s and before. I always found that well mad though. That a person would hit you for being late, you wouldn't do that to an adult, so why a child? It doesn't teach them anything and it's always with the assumption that they were "evil children". The same with spelling mistakes or not doing their work correctly, would also result in being struck by a cane. How is that education? It would only impede learning, and what of people with learning difficulties?

 

How such a punishment system was devised in the first place, and why they still do it in some countries bewielders me. My mom was hit on the knuckles with a ruler in school because she was late one morning for class for reasons out of her control.
