I think you may have misunderstood something. No one could ever download anything from WOL. Downloads have always been only through jw.org. The note you mention on wol.jw.org to go to jw.org for downloads is new, but nothing was changed about functionality.

In a more general note, this reminds me of the 1990s. There was a time when watchtower.org was the only official website for Jehovah's Witnesses. It was only later that jw.org was added, which included the ability to download publications, something that could not be done from watchtower.org. Then, jw-media.org was added for journalists, and at the beginning it was almost unknown to rest of us. It was only in 2012 that all three sites were merged into jw.org. But that was before WOL and JW Broadcasting were even heard of. This merger we're experiencing now looks like a repeat of what happened in 2012.

It's not new. Look for example the archive from 2014

Friends, the changes made will only affect the website. The apps for our devices should still work as normal as the changes made only affect where the videos are coming from. That's all done behind the scenes. No one is canceling or discontinuing JW Broadcasting.

Thanks for clearing that up! 😀

Hm, did they make it from scratch or are they using something like bootstrap? Just wondering what language they decided to go with.

I don’t know about JW.org but I think until very recently this website used Logo. I know they had a turtle running around anyway.

@Nirex
Does the recent HuB video indicate what software they might be using for JW.org?

Yes, I expect tv.jw.org to disappear completely. It’s only reasonable.
As for how long it will remain as a redirect page, I wouldn’t know.

Additionally, I wouldn’t expect any of the third-party apps, like the Roku, Apple TV, and Amazon Fire TV to be affected.

They are not third-party. They are produced completely by our organisation. They will not be affected by the sites merging.

Nice report!

As a side thought ... did you notice that at 3:04 Br Louw had a glass on his desk with the "HUB" logo

and at 5:10 Br DelGrande has a coffee cup on his desk  with the "HUB" logo

Perhaps there is a misunderstanding.  The "Website" titled TV.JW.ORG has been removed from access through the worldwide web at that address.  As several others posted...if you try to use that website all you get is a message and a timed redirect to another website called JW.ORG.  Would that be clearer or more accurate for you?...😊

The previous content is available in the new location.

I tried it again to be sure.  Site is not down here in the eastern part of the USA.  I see you are from Calif., USA.

....and I don't need Roku.

Isn't Roku just used to watch the program on direct cable TV?

Streaming to a computer only requires good internet access. There are a number of computer programs that can cast to a TV without Roku.

All of the pertinent data from www.watchtower.org is available on JW.ORG but you can't go to the old watchtower site and get in.  In a while the society will close the redirect and the old TV site will go dark also, you can't get into that site either.  All of that data has been transferred to JW.ORG also.  It looks like the end intention is to have one gateway to our organization.  Very nice.

Just an FYI, Roku is something someone who does not wish to use Cable TV would use. There is no Cable TV subscription needed to use Roku. In fact for some older ones it's simpler to use than a computer.

No.

Roku uses apps to access sites via the internet.  Instead of going to tv.jw.org, we just use the JW Broadcasting app on Roku.

Similarly, we also use the YouTube app to access that website on Roku.

The apps are not web browsers, they link to those specific sites, just like a tablet or phone.

We do not have cable.

For the basics like HTML, CSS, and Javascript, yeah. But the underlying framework like PHP, Ruby, or other languages is usually server-side and hidden. Since it looks like it's Web 2.0.. I'm assuming it's Ruby on Rails. But I was curious if they used a framework or coded everything from scratch.

Ruby on Rails?

Could post an image of Ruby as well as the railroad she was on?
