Gunman opens fire in German city of Hamburg - Brothers and Sisters Wounded

On my Amazon fire 10 tablet, I went to the website and then tap the 3 dots on right and selected translate.

It translated from German to English just like that.

"there was Jehovah’s word for him, and it went on to say to him: “What is your business here, E·lijah?" To this (Elijah) he said: “I have been absolutely jealous for Jehovah the God of armies"- 1 Kings 19:9, 10 Reference Bible

Ecclesiastes 7:21 "..., do not give your heart to all the words that people may speak," - Reference Bible

How to view in English on iPad please?

You could open translate.google.com then select website, and then insert the URL and select the language you would like it translated it. Google will then give you a new URL which when you click, opens the page in the desired language.

Does this mean that these six brothers and sisters agreed to an exclusive interview with a worldly media outlet? There's nothing wrong with that, I guess. But wouldn't they want to have been interviewed by the organization?

I don't believe it was an 'exclusive', just the 'first' interview.

Be aware that they may have offered it to the organisation, but the organisation may have been too busy.

What is the organisation's lead time for an interview like this?

Compare it with Dennis Christensen. He was released - as expected/hoped for - on 24 May 2022, and we where told last week, that "the interview of Brother and Sister Christensen will be made available on jw.org in the future." - so what is that, at least a 14-month lead time? But who did Bro Christensen agree to talk to first about his imprisonment?...

19.03 Spirit of Time. 6 years ago the Dane Dennis Christensen was brutally imprisioned during a meeting of Jehovah's Witnesses in Russia. He was then imprisoned in Russia, which considers Jehovah's Witnesses an extremist organisation. A short time ago he was released and is now back in Denmark, where he tells his dramatic story for the first time. Rebroadcast from Sunday. Host: Christoffer Emil Bruun.

This weekend there is regional convention in Vienna (capital of Austria), and security alarm was raised there too because of those explosions, there were security checks by police on site. Lets hope that they will find perpetrator quickly and then motives will be clear too.

Regional convention in Vienna went OK without any security issues. Perpetrator of attempted bombing in Leibnitz is still not known, as well as motives. What is clear is that the devices had potential to do much more damage than they actually did. Investigators are analysing if it was done on purpose (to only scare the people) or there was mistake made in construction of devices. Congregation received no threats from anyone before the incident.

This is being reported by various media outlets

Jehovah's Witnesses commemorate the victims of the killing spree one year ago

No public allowed

A year ago, a Hamburg congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses became the victim of a relentless shooting. Philipp F. (35) first killed seven believers, then himself.

The congregation in Alsterdorf is now planning a small, non-public memorial service for March 9. "This will take place in a church service for those directly affected and their relatives," said Michael Tsifidaris, spokesman for Jehovah's Witnesses in northern Germany. The city of Hamburg will also be represented.

However, the event is not open to the public. And the commemoration will not be covered by the media, the spokesperson explained.

Thanks, Brother Paul for sharing the link.

A little off-topic: I was not aware that Witnesses could hold anniversary memorials, more so at the Kingdom Hall, for lost loved ones. Is this new, or is this just a one-off event? Mods, please feel free to post this question as a new topic if it will distract from the main topic.

The anniversary of a tragic death is a welcome opportunity for a shepherding visit. So I would look at this event more like an opportunity to comfort one another rather than an anniversary memorial. One of the videos we have showes an older brother comforting a younger one who had lost his wife. After it concluded, the older brother made a note to call the younger brother next year before that date and comfort him again.

No effort = No bananas
More efforts = More bananas

On the one-year anniversary of the Hamburg attack, the German radio station Deutschlandfunk/Deutschlandradio carried a brief news item, with a quote the Jehovah's Witnesses' human rights representative, Stefan Steiner. (translation by DeepL)

One year after the Hamburg attack

Jehovah's Witnesses: attacks on members have increased

Jehovah's Witnesses lament an increase in verbal and physical attacks on members of the religious community. A year ago, seven people were killed in an attack in a congregation in Hamburg.

The Jehovah's Witnesses' human rights officer, Steiner, told the "Funke Mediengruppe" that more than 150 cases of insults, threats or assaults had been documented in the past two years. The number of acts against members had risen sharply after the attack in Hamburg. "Threatening messages on the doors of believers, vandalized literature trolleys as well as vile and inhumane insults are no longer an exception for Jehovah's Witnesses in the peaceful practice of their faith," explained Steiner.

On the one-year anniversary of the Hamburg attack, the German newspaper Hamburger Abendblatt run the following, virtually full-page article (partial translation only, via DeepL, see link below for full article)

After Hamburg rampage: Hatred of Jehovah's Witnesses grows

A year ago, a man killed seven Jehovah's Witnesses. Figures show that hatred has been growing ever since. Other believers are also being targeted.

On March 16 of last year, a Thursday, the phone rings in the Jehovah's Witnesses' Kingdom Hall in Essen. No one is there at that hour, shortly before noon, so the answering machine picks up. A woman is on the line, her words leaving little doubt about her hatred. "You idiots ... that was just the beginning ... of the end ... with the assassination. You'll all have to believe it, count on it ... It burns in my soul."... And it doesn't stop at one threat, she calls the community again, even a third time. "It will get worse ... you don't deserve it any other way." In the end, the woman threatens an assassination attempt: "And I'll kill everyone ... And I'll kill everyone ... And I'll kill everyone ..." Three times in a row, her voice slowly fades. Then she hangs up.

The woman's words weigh heavily.... On March 9, 2023, Philipp F. shot seven people, including an unborn baby in the womb, in the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses [in Hamburg].

Anyone who talks to Dirk G. from the congregation in Essen can still hear the shock in his voice from those days in March. He was the first person to hear the threatening calls. "When I heard the voicemails, I immediately thought of the Hamburg case and was also scared," he says.

The police and state security came immediately, a police car secured the next church service in the evening, and the congregation itself did a kind of anti-attack training. "It was simply that we felt unsafe and wanted to protect ourselves better," says Dirk G. But the worshippers' concerns did not diminish - also because the incident was not an isolated incident.

At the end of May 2023, two Jehovah's Witnesses, ladies, were proselytizing at the port of Flensburg with their trolley and Bible reading material when they were approached by a couple. At first, the two believers thought it would be the same as it often is, criticism coupled with insults. "At first I thought, you know how it is, it'll pass," says one of the victims today. But then the man gets loud, insults the two of them and threatens to throw them into the harbor basin.

Suddenly he grabbed their trolley and threw it into the water. "Do you want to go after them?" he shouted. The situation escalated - and was only resolved when passers-by intervened and stood between the violent couple and the believers.

Essen, Würzburg, Flensburg and Gottmadingen are just a few of the crime scenes. Our editorial team has a detailed list of 154 cases. Physical assaults, vandalism and arson, harassment, threats against family members, members of the congregation and meetings. It is a documentation of hatred.

Believers are increasingly being targeted by hate crime, both analog and digital - and it's not just Jehovah's Witnesses who are affected.

How sad the situation of our brothers in Germany! Something as terrible as a mass murder happened and affected the lives of many of our brothers in such a shocking way, that instead of people feeling sorry, what happened awakens in them what they really have in their hearts, reflecting the spirit of their father, which is equally evil, cruel, insensitive, harsh, merciless, malicious, perverse, inhumane, soulless, cold and hateful.

How appropriate the text of the year! Jehovah knows exactly what encouragement they need.

This is exactly in line with what was predicted. It is both cruel, logical and a harbinger of good news: the New World is waiting for us and it is eager to welcome us. Everything is now in place, all we have to do is wait for someone to light the fuse and the fireworks will be unforgettable for Jehovah, his heavenly family... and us, here on earth.
