  7. We want to thank everyone involved in this discussion for your heartfelt expressions. This tragedy has rocked the United States, drawn world wide attention and has even deeply touched our Brothers and Sisters, including members of this board who live in the area. In closing, let us reflect on the positive message the Bible has provided us. It's sad but not surprising that injustice and oppression continue to polarize and disrupt humanity. Instead of dwelling on the hurt and the inability for man to change these satanic acts, let us reaffirm our desire to help people understand the only hope for the end to racism and bigotry.

  8. It's almost strange, some of the comments from my friends. We are Jehovah's Witness's are we not? We are more aware of injustice than anyone in the world aren't we? Why are we letting this upset us any more than any other travesty Satan has placed upon the Earth. Do I since a bit of satanic work here trying to divide even us? It was an injustice period. It does not matter whose point of view you take. It was needless period. But try to reflect on your feelings as to why you are feeling the way you do. Try to understand this is all a part of Satan's plan to disrupt mankind in general and us also if he can. Don't get caught up in it. Don't expect true justice from any man on earth. All we can do is set our standards. Uphold our values our conduct. We can't effect the world just ourselves. Be patient friends. true justice, it's coming and it's in a hurry!

  10. I have been reading thru the book , "Steeped in Religion" about the Eisenhower family and how all the boys never did anything about the Truth. How sad for a mother who did her best to remain faithful to Jehovah with all her boys (as adults) who were in prominent positions in the secular field . In one paragraph in the book it mentioned that Jehovah's Witnesses were not college educated (something to that effect) This book is an interesting read. Of course, just like other books that mention the Watchtower Society it is biased, misinformed in some instances. One has to remember it is written from the World's standpoint of Jehovah's Witnesses.

  13. Brother Lloyd Barry's Life Story is in the w1960 9/15 page 552 and is just a very good example for this discussion: "...My early life was spent in Christchurch, New Zealand. As a schoolboy I worked hard at my studies and won first place in the University Entrance Scholarship, a prize for which all of New Zealand’s colleges and high schools vie with one another. I was on the way to becoming an atomic scientist, but now materialistic, evolutionary thinking began to surround me, and I soon found this to be just as unreasoning and worthless as the clergy’s “hell-fire” teaching. The Bible began to exercise its full power in my life. Though I went on to take my master’s degree in science, I was devoting almost pioneer time to the ministry during most of my university days..." Just one of many such examples available. Another life story with a bearing on this discussion is: A Soldier Who Became a Preacher As told by Richard A. Boeckel w1980 10/15 page 24 where sister Ida Eisenhower's letter to bro. Boeckel appears.

  17. Hi Sister Lisa, Here are a couple of suggestions that might be helpful. 1} Mention the news report to your Service Overseer. If he is aware of it, then he might share with you what has been decided or how the body of elders is looking into the matter. If he is not aware of it, he will be thankful and he can then talk with the body of elders and they can determine how to proceed. 2} In some cases, the Branch has asked the elders to make arrangements with the local police. An example of this is where in the mornings and/or afternoons "before" heading out into the ministry, a brother will contact the police informing them of what specific areas/communities that Jehovah's Witnesses would be visiting that morning/afternoon. This cooperation has been helpful to the police and has helped to establish a good relationship with them. Also when neighbors call the police due to seeing strange cars and/or strangers, the police are able to reassure them immediately. Of course this arrangement has to be done by the body of elders and by direction of the Branch.

  18. Amen!! I would like to add that I looked up the interviews given by the parents. The one that I saw was on CNN with Don Lemon and it was just after their son was killed. I could not judge by this interview that they did not teach their son not to respect authority. All I saw was distraught parents, the mother broke down, and started crying, father did him best to keep it together. The interview i saw was on GMA with Charlie Rose and Gayle King, I believe this after the video showing there son stealing cigars and grabbing the shop owner by the neck. And I could not judge by that interview either, that they did teach their not to respect authority. By the way, I heard on the radio today that Brown was left on the street dead for 4 hours. In any event, we can't give/allow Satan ANY opportunity to pull us apart from Jehovah or each other. Let's not make this another OJ.

    Door to door ministry

Seveal daytime home invasions (while home owners are there) have occurred. The criminals duct tape all occupants and then ateal valuables. In todays news, the police cautioned viewers ....if someone knocks on your door but you're not expecting visitors, and don't know them, don't answer the door - call the police. If this were happening in your territory, how would you handle your door to door ministry?

  24. I definitely agree. I'm learning that if such conversations cause you to exhibit any other fruitage than that of Gods spirit that there's only one other spirit that you could be reflecting. I appreciate unity not conformity. At that same time bickering, strife, anger (even slight) leaves room for the Devil. I'm certainly not perfect however the standard is set---neturality. We are engaged in a spiritual war. Satan would love us to be distracted to creep in to overtake us if only for a few moments so that our defenses are down and he can creep in just a little. Being short sighted about these matters IMO is missing the point entirely for a Christian....myself included. We strive to be are no part of the world in all matters. Satan uses this type of distraction as a Trojan horse of some sort. Its a no win taking any the side of but the kingdom.

  25. Have you ever had the experience of first meeting someone and your first impression is....."this person is a little homely". Then you get to know them and like them a lot.... Suddenly you're thinking... "This person is somewhat attractive". Sounds strange, but I've had that experience. I believe as it's been mentioned,.. The inner person definitely affects our perception of the outer person. In the new world that will be the most important thing (the inner person).

  26. I am looking at all of this from a distance, since we don't receive such detailed news here of what happens in America. In view of the last informations brought to light, it might seem that this guy reaped what he sowed. But in any case, I doubt all these riots are due just to the police shooting a criminal. It's undeniable that racial issues exist and some people suffer discrimination. The way this incident was manipulated and presented by the media was the straw that broke the camel's back and ignited the indignation of these people who feel, rightly or not, that they are being treated differently due to their ethnic background or the color of their skin. Add to the mix a few agitators who took advantage of the indignation to promote their own agendas, and there you have riots. Of course no Witnesses would join a riot and burn cars on the street, but I guess it's really difficult not to become somewhat involved, at least emotionally, if you are one of those who have suffered due to racial prejudices. Man can only do justice to some limited degree, but will never be successful to erradicate racial tensions. Only Jehovah's kingdom will be able to change the heart of people.

  27. It's still hard for me to believe that out of all the "witnesses" to this event, that not ONE person pulled out their cellphone and started to record the incident! I have a feeling someone did, but it didn't put someone in a favorable light so they never came forward.

  28. This is so true!!! If a police officer tells me to get off the street and onto the sidewalk, then I will do it. We obey the police officers, even if we think they are wrong or are making too much out of stuff. The fact that he robbed a store, assaulted a police officer and refused to obey the police officers commands is what is lost in this entire conversation. No one is talking about this and that is what bothers me.
    1 point
  29. This may be true, but police officers have to make decisions within a second. Officers do not have time to stand there and think for minutes on end and say to themselves "should I do this" or "what would happen if I did this instead". Officers have literally one second to make a decision. Do they sometimes make the wrong one, yes. If you are not a police officer then you have no idea what it is like for them. I do not believe the officer wanted to kill this person. He made a decision in a split second, and this is what happened. It's very easy for all of us to criticize this officer and say he should have done that or he should have done this, but without being in his shoes at that precise moment, none of us have any clue what went through his mind and how he came to this decision.

  30. I 100% agree. Had his parents taught him to respect authority - none of this, the robbery, roughing up the store clerk, assaulting an officer and his death - all easily could have been avoided. It is a good lesson for all of us - respect duly placed authority and teach others to do likewise. Nice post Lynn.

  31. According to the officers testimony, although he is trained in using a taser, he chose not to bring a taser with him that day. In hindsight we can say that was not a good choice on his part. As it played out, a taser was not an option. In the State I live in, many have died as a result of tasers so even if it had been an option, there is no guarantee that the outcome would have been different. Satan is the ruler of this world, so I wouldn't expect perfect justice to come either from this present system or from the efforts for civil change. God's Kingdom is the only hope because I suspect it will get much worse. When Jehovah or Jesus are the "real Police Officer," do you think it will end any differently? Will Jehovah or Jesus tolerate crime in the New World or even the attitude, "no one is going to tell me what to do"? Isa. 65:20 It will be interesting to see how he deals with all the resurrected ones in perfect justice with the choices they make._Ps. 37:10,11,27-29, 38 "For Jehovah loves Justice"

    If you’re “ugly”

Who is adamant, Brigette? I would be adamant that I need some 'fixing up' so I'll be more attractive to my wife when she's resurrected. As for varieties, I'm sure there will be more than you expect. Daily I wonder what my girl will look like on that day...

  33. Of course this is a terrible story, and I do have sympathy for the family. The facts though are this: 1. The victim robbed a store 2. He then assaulted a police officer 3. He refused to stand down when told too by the police officer Police officers by law are allowed to use deadly force in situations where they are threatened. Some may not agree with the law, but it is the law. From all the correct information on this case and not the media spin or false stories on twitter and Facebook, the police officer acted within his rights per the law. You don't assault police officers and when a police officer tells you to stand down, you stand down, simple as that.

    Smoking

My Grandfather was disfelowshipped for smoking in 74. He tried and tried to stop smoking. When the watchtower told us to stop associating with DFed family we faithfully followed the direction we were given. I was very proud when my Grandfather decided enough was enough and he quit. He started studying with an elder. A year later he was reinstated. I was so excited to be at the kingdom hall with him. He got to meet my wife and told me how great she was even before we got married. He was at our wedding in the front row. He started going down hill about 10 years later. Alzheimer's robbed him of his cognitive ability. He is asleep now waiting for Jesus call. I miss him a lot. So much it hurts sometimes.
