  1. I did not see a thread created, so I took the liberty to make one (if there is one, let me know where it is). And I also think this is the correct link: https://www.jw.org/download/?pub=jwb&issue=201810&langwritten=e By my count, Monday is the first, so the Broadcast is less than a week away! A few notes based on what I am personally thinking. This is the month for the annual meeting. Will we get a preview? Or have they made/will make arrangements to enable us to live stream the meeting on JWB? Will they let us know if we are doing what we did last year as far as watching it as an organization? Who will host? I like Octobers now, because the month has a lot to look forward to spiritually.

  4. Keep up the good work dear ones. Its not easy living in this last days.. the love of many has grown cold. I echo what you all say. We see awful things happening around but also battle to keep our integrity and keep Jehovah's name untarnished. I was sobbing on my way home today, hurting from the way my boss had treated me. She had a go at me for something petty and not even my fault. 😔She accused me of not caring, which really hurt cause after all this time, my best is not good enough. It hurts that with all my hard work and dedication, i did not even get a thank you or appreciation. I worked so hard because i know i represent Jehovah and he admonish us for whatever we do, do it with all our might. Its sad how it turned out this way, as today was my last day of working with her(she goes on holiday and my last day notice is on friday.) I was so shocked and upset but all I could do is pray to Jehovah to keep me calm and to help me keep going. People are unthankful, disloyal, stab you behind your back, selfish- and you work with them everyday. And im sure many of you face the same way i do at workplace. Its a reflection of how deep we are in the last days and indeed fulfillment of the prophecy. Keep going dear ones! Xx

  7. This made me laugh ...LOL A man sparked “pandemonium” on a plane from India’s capital New Delhi as he attempted to open the plane’s exit door after mistaking it for... the toilet. Passengers on board the GoAir Flight last Sunday, from New Delhi to Patna in northeast India, started yelling when they saw the man, a first-time flyer in his late twenties, trying to open the rear exit of the plane. According to police, the man told passengers trying to stop him that “he needed to use the washroom urgently and kept tugging at the exit door.” Fortunately for some 150 passengers on board, the man was unable to open the door because of air pressure. He did, however, manage to unlock it, according to CISF (Central Industrial Security Force) personnel. The passenger was tackled by the crew and later handed to airport security. According to the Times of India, he works in a leading private bank in Ajmer, a city in the northern state of Rajasthan. “Pandemonium prevailed amid all this and he was restrained and finally handed over to us. He said that the confusion happened because he had boarded a flight for the first time in his life,” Sanowar Khan, the officer in charge of the local police, was quoted by the Telegraph, a Kolkata-based newspaper. Police checked records to confirm that the man had never flown before and released him the same evening. https://www.rt.com/news/439378-man-opens-door-plane-india/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=RSS

  8. Wednesday, September 26 I have spoken, and I will bring it about. I have purposed it, and I will also carry it out.—Isa. 46:11. The very first words of the Bible make this simple but profound statement: “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” (Gen. 1:1) It is true that we have only a little understanding of the many things God created, such as space, light, and gravity, and we have seen only a small fraction of the universe. (Eccl. 3:11) Yet, Jehovah has revealed to us his purpose for the earth and for mankind. The earth was to be an ideal home for men and women created in God’s image. (Gen. 1:26) They would be his children, and Jehovah would be their Father. As explained in the third chapter of Genesis, Jehovah’s purpose encountered a challenge. (Gen. 3:1-7) However, that challenge was by no means insurmountable. No one can stand in Jehovah’s way. (Isa. 46:10; 55:11) Therefore, we can be certain that Jehovah’s original purpose will be fulfilled exactly on time! w17.02 1:1,2

  12. Tuesday, September 25 Walk in modesty with your God!—Mic. 6:8. Sometime during King Jeroboam’s reign, Jehovah sent a certain prophet from Judah to deliver a scathing judgment message to that apostate king of Israel. The humble prophet faithfully delivered God’s message, and Jehovah protected his servant from Jeroboam’s violent wrath. (1 Ki. 13:1-10) On his way home, the prophet unexpectedly met up with an old man from nearby Bethel. The man claimed to be a prophet of Jehovah. He deceived the younger man into disobeying Jehovah’s strict instructions ‘not to eat bread or drink water in Israel’ and ‘not to return by the way that he came.’ Jehovah was not pleased. Later, on his way home, a lion came across Jehovah’s prophet on the road and killed him. (1 Ki. 13:11-24) Why did the once modest prophet presumptuously go along with that deceitful older man? The Bible does not say. But it could be that he completely forgot that he was supposed to be ‘walking modestly with God.’ w17.01 4:1-3

  14. I love translation, and reading about translation - especially of the NWT. This just made me realize how much official material about translation there is pertaining to the NWT that other languages have that English doesn't. Not to say that English is starved for spiritual food in this regard, but knowing that each edition of the NWT has it's own translation challenges is so fascinating, and oh-so-slightly depressing that I'll not be able to know what these challenges and stories are. For instance, the talk "The Word of God is not Bound" by Nicholas Ahladis brings up many of the translation challenges in multiple different languages that are unique to those languages. I do sorely wish that each translation came with copious translation notes and commentary on how they went about these issues. I know that the study edition is doing much in that respect, which I do appreciate.

  17. You know? Been thinking on this. A narcissistic person will project their fears and actions onto innocent people making them (the narcissist) sound as if they are victims when in fact it's the other way round ... their projections are exactly what they are thinking or doing. We live in a narcissistic system, where they have pushed their projections onto Jehovah's people, projections that WE are letting people die because we refuse blood - when in fact, that is what THEY are doing because of USING blood. We can apply this illustration to any false accusation they throw at us ... the only way to combat narcissism is to not play the game ... and that's what Jehovah's organization is telling us to do - is focus on the Kingdom not on the storms around us - they are projections of sick world that only Jehovah can fix. That being said, there are three things I'd like the world to know definitively in favour of Jehovah's people and those are: The NAME of our God - without a shadow of a doubt in THEIR eyes. The vindication of any slur on Jehovah's people when it comes to child abuse. And third -- A vindication of the blood issue.

  18. When did the news become x-rated? Then I started thinking. Women’s products, men advertising catheters, (in the doctors office, thank you) um, men’s products. I remember my, “not in the truth yet”, daughter saying she was being made uncomfortable with the tv’s adds, because of her young daughters. Nevermind the, “news”. Its flat out disgusting.

Contaminated blood scandal: Inquiry 'must uncover truth' https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-45591584 Transfusions of contaminated blood infect people, especially when screening for Hepatitis was limited or nonexistent. The UK public inquiry is looking at how thousands of NHS patients were given infected blood products during the 1970s and 1980s in what has been dubbed the worst-ever NHS treatment disaster. UN chief: World suffering from 'trust deficit disorder' The world is suffering from "trust deficit disorder," UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres said in remarks ahead of world leaders' speeches at the UN headquarters in New York. People are losing faith in political establishments, power relations are unclear and "democratic principles are under siege," Guterres said. "The world is more connected, yet societies are becoming more fragmented. Challenges are growing outward, while many people are turning inward," the UN chief added. https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2018/09/general-assembly-2018-latest-updates-180925063001598.html Well.. no surprises there.. 29. The relevant paragraph says: Previous editions used the word «congrégation» to refer to an organized group of believers. But language evolves and today that word is mostly understood as a group of monks who live in community. For that reason, that word has been replaced by «assemblée».

  33. I have a question for any other French-speaking brothers or sisters. Perhaps @jpl or @Dages (or anyone else who speaks French fluently) could help me out. I pioneered in a French congregation for a few years, but it's still only a second language to me. (I could write in French, but since this is an English forum...) When the "new" French Bible was released in 1995, the term "serviteur ministériel" (ministerial servant) was changed to "assistant ministériel" (ministerial assistant). But why? The term "serviteur" is an accurate translation of "servant" (as far as I can see). Do you know why it might have been changed? Is there some nuance of French that I am not aware of? Similarly, in the new 2018 French Bible, the term "surveillant" (overseer) was changed to "responsable" (person in charge). Therefore, a "surveillant de circonscription" (Circuit Overseer) is now a "responsable de circonscription." So the question is the same: Do you know why it might have been changed? (By the way, don't make the same mistake one brother did. He called him the "surveillant de circoncision"!) In reality, the same question could be asked about saying "assemblée" (gathering) rather than "congrégation" (congregation). One brother in my congregation, who also speaks French as a second language, suggested the following to me: The word "serviteur" (servant) might give people the impression that this person is like a slave (as though he is in abject servitude), and has to do the bidding of his superiors even against his own will. So, the 1995 rendering "assistant" would dispel that impression. Also, the word "surveillant" (overseer) might be understood by some as someone who lords it over others and is master over everything they do. That explanation sounded good to me. However it doesn't explain why similar changes were never made to the English NWT. Your thoughts please?

  34. This is true. Sometimes, we need to allow ourselves to be used by Jehovah to encourage and even help our brothers and sisters. Yes, we are encouraged to rely on Jehovah. But remember that Jehovah also uses people. If we fail to remember others in their time of need, are we genuinely Christ's disciples who ought to identified with the quality of displaying love among ourselves? In my country, the economic situation has affected so many brothers and sisters. Young ones especially. Its so overwhelming that two circuit visits from two different overseers were made consecutively, giving the same topic. I don't know if the same happened everywhere else.

  37. People in Germany are becoming more -snappy -cynical -sarcastic -arrogant -impatient I have particularly noticed a lot of these changes through the behaviour of the role-models in TV shows, films and audio-books. You can't believe how people treat each other and how they talk to each other in those shows. Even a lot of worldly people comment on how extreme that behaviour has become, and of course, it has an influence on how people actually interact in real-life. Just one of literally millions of examples

  38. People have most definitely changed. In the news here: Mothers killing their own children, husband kills his wife, child, then himself. Someone even shoved a little boy off of a giant waterside because he was tired of waiting in line.. Some days, I just can not take the news, so I avoid it completely. The love of the greater number has grown cold, that's for sure. But it seems to have actually gone beyond that now. People are fierce, some animalistic. It is hard to live with people like this.
    1 point
  39. The love of the greater number is definitely a lot colder now than even just 25 or 30 years ago. You really notice it in a small community, where helping neighbors in need is what we do, er, used to do. Our fire department is operated by civic minded citizens who generously give their time and efforts in service to their community. Every year, our department gets smaller and smaller, as volunteers age out, or have to retire do to medical issues, and there are no people willing to take their places. People say they don't have the time. They don't have the time because they are too busy to volunteer. Yeah. Right. Busy playing with all the toys they've worked so hard to accumulate, or busy playing sports. Some day, someone's house will begin to burn and there won't be anybody around to take the trucks to the fire and fight it. Signs signs everywhere there's signs.
