  1. Various forms of self expression and individualism also seem to increase as the world becomes more crowded. It seems that people feel lost in the crowd and feel the need to make a statement even if no one hear it... Tattoos make them look different, just like everyone else...

  2. Wearing a ring is not practical when working around farm machinery. Found that out the hard way. Nearly had my ring finger ripped off. Haven't worn any rings for over 45 and a half years. Will be married 46 years in December.

  3. I can’t help but think that this tattoing obsession is a direct assault, by Satan, mocking Jehovah’s sovereignty by influencing Jehovah’s creation to disfigure themselves. I heard a radio interview not long ago, where a Physcologist said the tattoing trend is a Body Dysmorphia Syndrome, which is the idea that their bodies are not acceptable as is, causing the individual to “cover over” what they find not to be acceptable. Satan’s media makes all this tattoing look “normal”. When really it is a mental condition as well a a spiritual problem. It vol2 TATTOO A permanent mark or design on the skin made by cutting the skin to produce scars or by inserting coloring matter under the skin. The Israelites were forbidden to engage in this practice, one that was common among some other ancient peoples. (Le 19:28) For example, there were times when the Egyptians tattooed the names or symbols of their deities on their breast or arms. By complying with Jehovah’s law not to disfigure their bodies, the Israelites would have stood out as different from other nations. (De 14:1, 2) The prohibition would also have impressed upon them a proper respect for the human body as God’s creation, to be used in honoring him.—Ps 100:3; 139:13-16; Ro 12:1.

  4. A young Brother I know has a black 2013 Bible. It is not "recovered" - it was an original "test" Bible. Seems they made quite a number of Bibles in various bingin material and colors. If a young pioneer Brother in Florida was given one to test - I see no reason one of the GB would not have one or two also

  7. Copyrights were never intended to prevent sharing our publications with our brothers and sisters. In the old time before we had digital editions, often we would run out of Kingdom Ministries and the elders would send me to make some photocopies for the brothers who didn't have one. Those obsessed with the letter of the law would raise their hands to their head and cry copyright infringement, but actually that was the right way to proceed. Sharing your CDROM with a brother who had lost his or had forgotten to order one was the logical, reasonable and loving thing to do. Refusing to do that because of copyright would be Pharisaical. Imagine those brothers in Nazi concentration camps who copied Bible scriptures on pieces of paper. Copyright breakers!

  8. Tonight, my daughter had trouble going to bed... tomorrow is the assembly, there is much excitation in the air. So we had a relaxing discussion, we were in the future, in paradise, and chatted about how our day was. It was really refreshing and I'm so happy to see that the Hope is really vivid in her mind. 7 years old... a true jewel. Thank you Jehovah.

  10. A couple years ago, in a survey on what men and women find "attractive" and "unattractive" about members of the opposite sex - tattoos were in the TOP 5 of the unattractive list for both, men and women I have seen some who tattoo their hands to the extent that they look like they always have "dirty hands" - there are some of the Celebrity Chefs who look that way!

  12. My job was like that. One time I was wearing it and had a fair sized piece of molten metal stick to it....that hurt, and took a while to heal. The reason I don't wear my ring now is because I have lost a lot of muscle from my hands and my fingers are not as big around as they used to be. My ring is size 13 (maybe 14) and it is too loose for me to wear because I worry about losing it. I've never had it fall off but I worry. There was an experience related to me, the details are lost in my head somewhere, someone I knew slipped as they were exiting their RV. As they grabbed for the door frame the ring got caught on the frame/latch as their feet went out from under them. This was long before I ever heard the term 'deglove' but that is what happened.

  13. Likewise - no rings - mind you - no tattoos either - rings went on and off not much later after nearly loosing a finger - neither one of us have worn a ring since - 40 years later. ALTHOUGH … Hubby had visited a hall a few times while away for work and a sweet lady of 120 () mentioned to him that there were several available sisters - telling him that she noted he was not wearing a ring. He was flattered. And myself - I too looked for my ring when I first started attending and on my own when I realized I could be seen as misrepresenting myself - the ring is back in the jewelry box

  18. There was a time (in the past) when some would argue or disagree if you gave someone your DVD (or CD) copy to use for installation. Or if you put the files on a flash drive from the DVD. They felt the action was the "indiscriminate distribution" of copyrighted material that was not for public use. Well, now the organization puts these same files on its publicly accessible website for anyone to download and activate. Just having the program installed can allow anyone the opportunity to have regular updates of these same files. So the question of sharing the files has been put to bed.

  19. I have the privilege to work at the local Assembly Hall once a week and a simple breakfast is provided for all the workers, then at 8:30 a brother will conduct Morning Worship using the Daily Text just as you described. Different brothers are assigned each week so they are fully prepared to conduct. He will get a volunteer to read the scripture, then he will make a brief comment, then he will get a volunteer to read the commentary, then he will ask questions and get comments.

  21. Gertrude got her first ambulance ride today. She had been doing better, actually quite well until last night, but we assumed she was just tired, so I took the opportunity to go back to Newport today to take care of things. I got to Albany, 5 hours out on a 6 hour drive, started at 5:30 AM, when Leslie called and said Mom had collapsed and she had called 911. I am 80 YO and too far along the drive to turn back. The last hour was one miserable drive. Leslie called and said they did a brain scan and all is OK in that department. Gertrude is totally conscous and was able to eat between tests. As I write she is in an ambulance heading back to Cherry Hill in Seattle (EMR was at Providence Hospital in Everett) for blood circulation tests. Four months, so far, I hope for the best and .... Thanks for prayers

  22. I don’t know if it is just me or whatever, but I cannot believe how many women have tattoo’s these days! And I am not talking about just one on their upper arm – I am talking full sleeves down their arms! For one, these things are not cheap to get. And also, what are these things going to look like in 5 years? 15 years? I suppose they feel the need to make a statement or whatever. Even ones where I would have thought would require the utmost professionalism: banking, legal, etc. Sign of the times I guess.

  23. Friday, August 17 I inquired of Jehovah, and he answered me. He rescued me from all my fears.—Ps. 34:4. We too can pour out our concerns to Jehovah, knowing that he will hear us and strengthen us to endure with joy. And when our prayers are answered, our faith gets stronger. (1 John 5:14, 15) Since faith is an aspect of the fruitage of the spirit, we need to “keep on asking” for God’s spirit, as Jesus urged us to do. (Luke 11:9, 13) Our prayers, though, should not be limited to asking God for personal help. “Too numerous to recount” are the “wonderful works” we can thank and praise Jehovah for daily! (Ps. 40:5) Also, our prayers should reflect that we “keep in mind those in prison, as though [we] were imprisoned with them.” And we should pray for our worldwide brotherhood, especially “those who are taking the lead among [us].” Our hearts are touched when we see how Jehovah answers our united prayers!—Heb. 13:3, 7. w16.10 3:8, 9

  30. Yes, that was the limit. This did not mean you could make it available online for other people to download. In that respect, it is the same as with our other publication. You might take a physical copy and give it to someone, or copy a page or two from it. You may not make a digital copy of it, or download such a copy, and make it available on a server for other people to download. You might make a copy or two, print it for a friend or return visit, or share it with that one friend using other limited means.

  36. I do not know where he got the color of his Bible, but listen to the words he reads. They are from our newly revised edition (2013). In the reading of Luke 12:20 he reads "life" not "soul" as we said in the 1984 Ref Bible. Similar difference can be heard in James. He is reading the 2013 edition (maybe he had someone put a maroon binding on it, they still were binding in maroon last year for countries who did not have 2013 ed).

  38. On most smart TV's. simply turning them off does not disconnect them from the network - nor does it necessarily clear the buffers. By unplugging the TV you force it to "reboot" (reset) the network connection. This is sometimes needed with modems, routers and even computers. Sometimes it depends on your Internet service - for whatever the reason, some providers need to have the network connection set more than others. If your power is not stable (you have power drops or spikes that you may not notice) or your service provider has a signal that changes bandwidth/speeds or a regular basis, the problem can get worse. Generally, if the "circle in the middle" won't go away, it is because the speed of the connection is not staying ahead of the buffer. This could because the speed of the signal is too slow - or, it could be the buffer in your device (like your TV) is not clearing so the available room for new data must wait for old data to be removed before more new data can be stored. Bu unplugging the device (like your TV), you also clear the buffers. So, your problem could be multi-fold. Your TV buffer may not be clearing. You network could be not clearing buffers. You Internet may be s l o w at times and not allowing the data to come in fast enough to stream. Your power could be unstable, causing buffer problems. By putting your TV on a UPS - it will stop any unstable power problems - the rest of the issues you may just have to discover which it may be - or, just know that you may have to reboot yout TV from time-to-time.

  40. Yes, I saw some of those sample bibles when I went to bethel. They had a dark blue Bible with silver pages and letters. I liked that bible more, and in my opinion, would have made more sense since dirt wouldn’t show up so easily on the cover. I’m happy with what we have, though.

  41. Thanks. That's exactly the problem I was having. Thanks, Lynn. I tried this and it is working now. I had already restored to factory settings several times to no avail, but that was some weeks ago. Today I tried unplugging the tv and it worked. I'm not sure if it's due to unplugging or it simply works when it wants, but so far it's going well. I understand that but right now using the browser is the only way to see the English subtitles. Until a couple months ago you could download the videos with subtitles, but not anymore, not sure of the reason. Thanks, that's a good suggestion. I have a Roku on an old tv we rarely use. I have have issues again I will connect it to this tv. Anyway there was an annoucement some time ago that English subtitles would not work on Roku for a time. Not sure if they are working now again.

  42. We need not have lived during the war years to read the history about them in the United States. During WW1 and WW11 there was intense persecution against our brothers and sisters. War hysteria brought out the worst in many who supported the war efforts. Our children were spanked and/or expelled from school and persecuted by their class mates. Our draft-age brothers were tarred , feathered, and run out of town on a rail. Many were beaten mercilessly , some were castrated.. I have noticed a heightened sense of patriotism among the general public right here in my town and among my relatives. This is readily apparent in our ministry. Often we aren't aware of the behind-the-scenes workings of the various countries until there is a major event such as happened in Russia a couple of years ago. There was a video at a convention several years ago that really warned us of the speed with which a government ban can develop. This is one of the reasons why we need to keep awake and aware of what can happen.

    Newly engaged!!

Congratulations! Being married is so much fun 😊 My husband and I have been married 3 years, and I have to say the best advice I can give is to really keep the wedding simple. We grew up in different congregations, and both have family from out of town, so the potential guest list was quite big. We narrowed it down to 110 and it was a nice number in the end. We tried to be as organized as possible and, with the help of friends and family, were able to have an almost stress-free wedding and reception. My husband’s brother came into town a few days before the wedding asking what needed to be done and was surprised when we told him everything was taken care of. We made sure to ask for help well in advance, and I wrote/typed down EVERYTHING for my friends to help set up the day of the wedding. I have been a part of too many weddings where everyone is stressed (including me) and really didn’t want that for our own wedding. Brides arriving over an hour late to the ceremony, people helping set up not having any direction and not knowing what to do, things getting misplaced/forgotten, bridal party mishaps, people crying...of course not everything can be perfect and things happen, but I learned a lot from other weddings. We chose to not have a wedding party at all, since we figured it would just add one more thing to think about. Our friends and siblings know we love them, and we don’t think they minded not being in the wedding. Saved us and them money too! As for newly married life, I feel like a surprising thing to get used to was sleeping in the same bed as another person. For the first week or two, especially. I’m not sure if anyone else has had this happen, but it was strange for me. What else...I think it’s easy to forget about your friends for a bit after getting married. You’re used to needing chaperones around when you’re dating/engaged, and once you’re married you can be alone, woohoo! So it’s easy to forget to socialize with others haha at least it was for us. Thats all I can think of at the moment, but keep us updated on your plans and if you have any questions or just want to talk, feel free! 🤗

  45. I very much disagree with this comment. The organization did prepare a version of Wachtower Library for PocketPC / Windows Mobile, but they did it too late, when that platform was beginning to disappear from the market. I guess they were very frustrated that all the work they invested into that version was soon useless, and that discouraged them from preparing a port to Android and iOS. However, the fact is that many brothers felt the need to have the publications in their mobile devices and they found different ways. I for one I am very thankful of the huge efforts some brothers made to develop Watchtower Publications for iSilo. Even though its functionality was far more limited than that of the official Watchtower Library, it's been extremely useful for me and it's still is since I don't always have signal or data to use WOL. For preparing meetings, meetings for service, return visits, shepherding visits, doing research and simply having spiritual discussions with the friends, having all that information on your phone is invaluable. The brothers at the branch were very aware of the project and were in touch with the brothers developing it. When they gave a suggestion, the brothers applied it. What they did never broke the copyright or the law, but even if it technically had its pointless to insist on the letter of the law rather than its intent. Our publications were never copyrighted to prevent the friends from using them, but to prevent them from being used with the wrong intention.

  48. We will have to see which features of each edition they keep in the merged version. As I recall, some languages will have a simplified version (not English). I have to agree with Sr. Patricia, though, I recall a comment about keeping an internal (Bethel version) for reference by translators. I will have to try to check that out.

  50. WhatsApp is like texting, but more advanced. You can send pictures, videos, audios, a contact, your location or record your own voice message. You can also make voice and video calls. All for free (well, unless you pay for data). Communication is encrypted so it's reasonably private. You can use WhatsApp to communicate with just one person, but you can also create groups and they will all receive the messages at the same time. WhatsApp is extremely popular in Europe, where virtually everybody has an account. We use it a lot for preaching groups, volunteer teams, servant and elder bodies, and so on. For example, our group overseer sent a message to the whole group last night saying this morning we would meet in a different home than was initially scheduled. Groups can also be created just for a particular event and then deleted. For example, when we throw a good-bye party for some brother we create a WhatsApp group with all the congregation and discuss there where we will meet or who will prepare every thing. After the party we post some pictures there for all members to have, then delete the group.
