  2. Gertrude got her first ambulance ride today. She had been doing better, actually quite well until last night, but we assumed she was just tired, so I took the opportunity to go back to Newport today to take care of things. I got to Albany, 5 hours out on a 6 hour drive, started at 5:30 AM, when Leslie called and said Mom had collapsed and she had called 911. I am 80 YO and too far along the drive to turn back. The last hour was one miserable drive. Leslie called and said they did a brain scan and all is OK in that department. Gertrude is totally conscous and was able to eat between tests. As I write she is in an ambulance heading back to Cherry Hill in Seattle (EMR was at Providence Hospital in Everett) for blood circulation tests. Four months, so far, I hope for the best and .... Thanks for prayers

  3. We need not have lived during the war years to read the history about them in the United States. During WW1 and WW11 there was intense persecution against our brothers and sisters. War hysteria brought out the worst in many who supported the war efforts. Our children were spanked and/or expelled from school and persecuted by their class mates. Our draft-age brothers were tarred , feathered, and run out of town on a rail. Many were beaten mercilessly , some were castrated.. I have noticed a heightened sense of patriotism among the general public right here in my town and among my relatives. This is readily apparent in our ministry. Often we aren't aware of the behind-the-scenes workings of the various countries until there is a major event such as happened in Russia a couple of years ago. There was a video at a convention several years ago that really warned us of the speed with which a government ban can develop. This is one of the reasons why we need to keep awake and aware of what can happen.

  15. You are right Lisa, this is quite a scenery around here. All around the Mediterranean Sea (where I live, 5mn from the beach), the panorama is quite the same: olive trees, vineyards, orchards, pure blue sky. The place is jammed with tourists from everywhere in Europe, but also from people from other regions in France. And it’s the same scenario in every country around the M.Sea, including Italy. I think it’s not pure coincidence if the Genoa bridge collapsed at this time of year with so many people and cars and buses per square meter.

  16. There has been no comprehensive measurement of the full scope of child sexual abuse in the Catholic Church in the United States, though some have tried. American abuse survivors have pushed for years for the government to undertake a nationwide inquiry similar to the one conducted in Australia, where a royal commission spent four years examining the sexual abuse of children by a variety of religious and civic institutions, including the Catholic Church. I guess it's just a matter of time before the USA does what the Australian RC did..

  18. For a small backyard garden it produces well. I got 6 quarts of green beans, lots of giant German radishes, salad plate lettuces, will have about a gallon and half giant carrots for the freezer, probably 2- 5 gallon buckets of potatoes, I'll pressure can the red ones, have made a gallon of refrigerator pickles with more coming on, some peas- I think I don't like growing them, walla walla sweet onion, about a gallon bag of tomitillo's for a friend, and the piece d resistance - the spaghetti squash, I think there's over 20. Might look messy but it's actually all the clippings of harvested veg. I don't micromanage the garden either, I have dill that comes up wherever it wants as well as small weeds and such among the veg. Weeds help the soil keep hydrated and doesn't interfere with my veg. Oh and the rhubarb! I just picked about 22 pounds yesterday. Running out of friends! I can get 2 big pickings and one small one, I usually keep the small one. This is salad plate lettuce, just found this 2 years ago, my favorite. And the sunflowers, they're probably 7 feet tall! Supposed to be a small variety, hate to see what large would look like! Ok, done now. Promise.

  19. On most smart TV's. simply turning them off does not disconnect them from the network - nor does it necessarily clear the buffers. By unplugging the TV you force it to "reboot" (reset) the network connection. This is sometimes needed with modems, routers and even computers. Sometimes it depends on your Internet service - for whatever the reason, some providers need to have the network connection set more than others. If your power is not stable (you have power drops or spikes that you may not notice) or your service provider has a signal that changes bandwidth/speeds or a regular basis, the problem can get worse. Generally, if the "circle in the middle" won't go away, it is because the speed of the connection is not staying ahead of the buffer. This could because the speed of the signal is too slow - or, it could be the buffer in your device (like your TV) is not clearing so the available room for new data must wait for old data to be removed before more new data can be stored. Bu unplugging the device (like your TV), you also clear the buffers. So, your problem could be multi-fold. Your TV buffer may not be clearing. You network could be not clearing buffers. You Internet may be s l o w at times and not allowing the data to come in fast enough to stream. Your power could be unstable, causing buffer problems. By putting your TV on a UPS - it will stop any unstable power problems - the rest of the issues you may just have to discover which it may be - or, just know that you may have to reboot yout TV from time-to-time.

  23. The images on line show a roman aqua duck, couldn't be built back in 67. If I can find a picture of the bridge in my father's child hood home town, I'll add it in here. It's been standing for over 2,000 years. There are two of these bridges still standing in the town where my dad grew up and spent his summer vacations. Pointe Romano di Imperia, Ranzo. I saw it on line. And I have pictures with me standing on the bridge. It was in use (mostly carts and donkeys) back in the early 80's, after that they stopped animals and carts from going across. Most of the land farmers have died off and their kids do not want to be olive growers. So a lot of hill sides with olive tress gone wild. But still beautiful scenery. Now below is not me, it's some other tourist, but this is the town / Borghetto d’Arroscia | this is what it is called. And this bridge still exist today. It's 2,000 years old, and there is another one a little further up the river. But this one I have a picture of myself stooping down on it. Now this is what I call real ingenuity! My father not only grew up in this town/area, he brought my mother after he married her during the war along with my oldest brother (who am waiting to see in the resurrection and my parents). Life was not easy for any body during WWII but at least here they had plenty of olive oil to trade. They had to be vigilant on who they traded with due to the jealousy and spies. My father almost got killed when German Soldiers stopped him at his father's house with my baby brother in his arms. A village German speaking priest who knew my grandfather and dad saved his life. Or else, I would not be here telling you this story. In the paradise, I want to go back to this place. I love the mountains and the rivers, the fresh olive groves, and my mother knew the difference between good eating mushrooms and the kinds that could kill you. Umm..getting hungry for some home made food. Diary was sheep's milk, no goats.

  25. With everything else going on in the world, this story has broken my heart. Genoa, is my parents birth place, and all my cousins who are Italian. I see on the Italian News, that they are pulling up injured people, but I doubt they will live long. I think there are more people under the concrete, and some who may have drowned in the river below. The bridge collapsed in two parts. I just sent a message to people I know in Italy not far from the city. They are not relatives, they are family friends. I hope I hear from them soon. Not just my fleshly family, but in particular my spiritual ones, they mean more to me then life it's self! All these people who died yesterday (it is night there, soon to be tomorrow.) Not only this story, but another one in Chicago, where one of our sister's was killed during an attempted car jacking. Oh Jehovah, please let your kingdom come, let your set day be soon!!! I can't take it anymore!

  26. I did some research on the practice of tattooing and I hope this is what you you are looking for. Fads In your article “Young People Ask . . . Fads—Should I Jump on the Bandwagon?” (December 8, 1994), you mentioned tattooing. I was surprised that you did not make reference to the command at Leviticus 19:28: “You must not put tattoo marking upon yourselves.” L. D., United States These words do indeed give a measure of insight into God’s thinking on this matter. Of course, Christians are not under the Mosaic Law. (Colossians 2:14) Still, individuals would do well to bear this scripture in mind when deciding what to do in this regard. The reported health risks and the impression wearing a tattoo might give to others are additional factors that a Christian should weigh very seriously.—ED.

    Italy bridge collapse

The bridge was built in 1967, but never meant for today’s use, too many vehicles. It was checked 2 years ago for maintenance... Have you heard about the Gard bridge in France? It was built in the first century, still standing, was even used as a motorway for quite some time, not anymore now. For more info, you can go to the site: Avignon-et-Provence.com under Monuments- sorry I don’t know how to put a link from a tablet, with my computer I do, not with the tablet. Anyway, this Pont du Gard is a marvel in architecture.

  32. I too will be sending a quick message to my loved ones in Northern Italy. I don't think that they are affected, but it tugs at the heart to hear such awfully sad news like this. In a country that has serious seismic activity, the Italians have been slack in infrastructure due to their politics and inefficiencies in economics. And so the people suffer. A history of collapses shows how limited man is in sustaining any sort of "normal" life in this system: In March last year, a couple were killed when a motorway overpass collapsed on their car near Ancona on the country's Adriatic coast. A pensioner died in October 2016 when his car was crushed by a collapsing bridge over a dual carriageway between Milan and Lecco. That incident was blamed on bureaucratic bungling which led to a fatal delay in the bridge being closed after it was reported to be showing significant cracks. https://www.sbs.com.au/news/immense-tragedy-dozens-dead-in-italy-motorway-bridge-collapse?cx_cid=edm:newsam:2019

  38. So very sad. We just don't know how temporary our lives are right now in this system. May Jehovah help our shocked brothers and sisters, and her family who have to endure the deep pain and grief at her loss. May her neighbours perhaps listen to the message of hope when the brothers next call. Out of this tragedy may there be some good.

  42. Yes not only is JW,ORG the #1 most visited religious website out of 77,000 religious websites but it is the #1 most translated website out of ALL 1.9 BILLION websites worldwide. I use this info in service with remarkable success. For example someone says "I have my own religion" or "I go to the Baptist church" then I would say "Thats great then you must know about the #1 most visited religious website JW.ORG?" Then I show them the website and they are always very curious as to why our website beats theirs. LOL

  43. From jw-russia.org: https://jw-russia.org/news/18080813-414.html This insidious plot to stamp out Jehovah's people took 9 years, eh? How dastardly Satan truly is; how crafty, lowdown and rotten-to-the-core he really is! (If Jehovah allowed humans to see the destruction of His archenemy soon, I would want a front-row seat!)

  44. Lols just a little bit. We watched a guy in Cape Yorke. Somewhere of the Old Telegraph Rd go in and Out of this giant pond. He says everything was going well. Well you could see crap coming out of the exhaust. It didn't seem like a good idea. My hubby thought he have ago. We only just made it out. No snorkel. Hmmm!!! Way too close for comfort. Next you could see water pouring out where the filter is etc. Hubby looked really worried now. We are out in the middle of nowhere. Only thing I had that could soak up water I said to him "ah do you want to try some personal items "? Nah!!! He says. So might as well. I will do it. So between all the ridges in the filter the water was soaked up. And pretty much dry. Our bedding needed a lot of sun. Lols. Lifes pretty straight without a twist. Lol

    The coolest hairstyle ever

I know I don't know everyone who wears locs. However, too many people do not spend the time or take the care the girl in the video does to keep their head clean and together. Stinky hair is stinky - I don't care what it looks like. 😕 It's not a style I would ever wear nor would I like a man who wore them. My brother has locs down to his waist... and they're clean, if not as well maintained as they could be. Still a big "no" in my opinion of them. I don't like men with long hair, anyway -- and locs just are not my thing. Those fat ones the man is wearing are just really unattractive to me.

  47. I loved this scene in one of the opening chapters where he is getting his first assignment and they are at a Wal-Mart or something and eating hot dogs from a grill that they went in and got as the store is now "open". After a few paragraphs they talk about eating the "left-over" stuff from the "old world" and how when the spam finally ran out - no one missed it. Good stuff. I hope there will be some stores left - maybe some with a little mountain dew still left
