  1. This one made me laugh: A brother said, “I hate to be a squirrel. You’re in the middle of the road, and you clearly see something big coming at you. But you can’t decide if you want to run to the left or to right, and that’s gonna get you killed! You can’t be so indecisive when you can see the warning signs of something bad coming your way, especially during this time of the end. We have the clear directions from Jehovah, so we must go that way.”

  3. I just love how the monthly broadcasts gives us accurate information straight from the F&DS right into our home. It instills in me such confidence. As to the NWT, I sense (and it may only be me), a maturity in translation. When the 1960 bible was released, we (as an organisation) were feeing our way, and I feel some were not confident of the scholarly end result. I have no doubts now. And, (once again it may only be me), we don't need to have anyone 'outside' review or 'approve' our work. We are not some (perceived) upstart, but The World Leader in bible production. My input is nil in this production, but I am so proud (in a nice way) to use and promote this version. And to see so many embrace their new revision, brings back fond memories when my heart was burning with appreciation to get one put in my hand, in my congregation so many years ago. What a blessing! I look forward to seeing many more enjoy this experience as well. Older {waiting for wiser} [emoji1353]

  5. https://www.uppermichiganssource.com/content/news/Haiti-earthquake-kills-11-injures-135-495384971.html PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (AP) Emergency teams worked to provide relief in Haiti on Sunday after a magnitude 5.9 earthquake killed 11 people and left 135 injured. The country’s civil protection agency said that at least seven people died in the coastal city of Port-de-Paix and three people died in the nearby community of Gros-Morne in the province of Artibonite. It said that the injured were being treated at medical centers in the northern part of the country. Secretary of State for Communications Eddy Jackson Alexis said a preliminary report indicated that 11 people had died. The U.S. Geological Survey said the quake hit at 8:11 p.m. Saturday night (001 GMT) and was centered 12 miles (19 kilometers) northwest of Port-de-Paix, which is about 136 miles (219 kilometers) from the capital of Port-au-Prince. The quake was 7.3 miles (11.7 kilometers) below the surface. It was felt lightly in the capital, as well as in the neighboring Dominican Republic and in eastern Cuba. The civil protection agency issued a statement saying that some houses were destroyed in Port-de-Paix, Gros Morne, Chansolme and Turtle Island. Among the structures damaged was the Saint-Michel church in Plaisance. Rescue workers reported the collapse of part of a hospital in Gros-Morne and an auditorium as the quake hit on a rainy evening. They also reported damage at the police station in Port-de-Paix. Parliamentarian Alcide Audne told The Associated Press that two of the deaths occurred in the auditorium. Haiti President Jovenel Moise indicated in his Twitter account Sunday that civil protection brigades were working to clear debris and help victims. He also said the government had sent water and food. Impoverished Haiti, where many live in tenuous circumstances, is especially vulnerable to earthquakes. A vastly larger magnitude 7.1 quake damaged much of the capital in 2010 and killed an estimated 300,000 people.

  6. https://nationalinterest.org/feature/russia-and-china-arent-full-allies%E2%80%94yet-32637 The recent Sino-Russian military swaggering in Russia’s Far East may signal a new lasting alliance between the two Eurasian powers. This reactionary partnership is primarily due to the simultaneous American pressure against Moscow and Beijing and is coupled with their desire to challenge the U.S.-dominated global order. However, it may not be as permanent as it seems. Such tactical cooperation is not underpinned by common ideals, but rather by a shared desire to emasculate the Western liberal order. Russo-Chinese official relations date back tothe mid-seventeenth century when the two countries’ borders intersected following the conquests in the Siberian hinterland. Since then the relationship has been tempestuous, marked by years of both trade and cooperation as well as military standoffs and land-grabs Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G930A using Tapatalk

  10. You are certainly right. Just like every other false religion, they have nothing to do with divinely revealed truth and light. I’m just thinking that when we talk about them, it might be good to call them by their preferred names, just as we would like people to do to us. Out of respect and decency. Yes, it will be interesting to see if he has some success.

  11. "The full church name was given by revelation from God to founder Joseph Smith in 1838, according to the faith’s beliefs." "But Nelson said in his August statement to urge people not to use Mormon or LDS that the “Lord has impressed upon my mind the importance of the name he has revealed for his church.”" "The faith’s presidents are considered prophets who lead through revelations from God. Nelson, 94, ascended to the post in January when the previous president died." "Beloved ones, do not believe every inspired statement, but test the inspired statements to see whether they originate with God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world." --- 1John 4:1 Mormonism is a demon-inspired religion from start to finish and is used by Satan to mimic and mock Jehovah and His true visible organization here on earth. It's not the Church of Jesus Christ and its members are not saints.

  15. Yeah. I learned something there too! I always thought those "J" references were designations given by worldly (Christendom) scholars. Come to think of it, how could I have thought that? It makes more sense that it was the brothers who called them by "J".

  16. The Podcast is called What Trump Can Teach Us About CON Law. Here is the episode: "Right to Dissent" The host is Roman Mars of 99Percent Invisible fame. It's very positive, or, I should say it's very neutral. It says nothing negative about us and talks about the facts very professionally.

  17. A new book from our brother, available now. Not about life in Paradise, or during the GT, but from the perspective of a JW teenager in the early 2000's. You can get the book on Amazon, or for free on his blog as he publishes chapter every monday, as usual. https://thebloomofyouthnovel.blogspot.com/ I'm curious about this one.

    Visiting Greece

Although, I do not live in Greece, I could help you if you tell me which areas you will visit. Can you tell me some other information, eg. whether you go by air or by car etc in the PM? My home town is in Thessaloniki. This is the ancient Roman market(agora), perhaps here Paul preached when he visited the city

  26. (Would you believe it took me this long to watch the broadcast? ... Finally!) Yes, I really enjoyed that part discussing Appendix C. I had already seen it before just in passing. But now I have a new study project in view! I also enjoyed the interview with Nicholas Ahladis of Translation Services. (That's obviously a Greek name, which I find is rather appropriate for a discussion on translating the Christian Greek Scriptures.) But the following is rather delicate to mention without sounding picky... I always find it difficult to differentiate between the 1984 Reference Bible and the more recent Study Bible. The latter is the one that's only online. But I'm always mixing up the two names! I refer to the "Reference Bible" when I really mean to say "Study Bible" (and maybe vice-versa). I've got to work on that. However it seems I'm not the only one to get them mixed up. Did you notice that Brother Ahladis actually said "Reference" when he meant "Study?" He was referring to Appendix C4 at the time. It looks like no one in the studio caught the mistake in order to do a retake on it. But someone noticed it when the subtitles of the broadcast were done. Listen to the broadcast, with the subtitles, at the 29 minute 56 second mark of the program, and you'll see it was corrected there. You can also see the correction in William Chew's pdf transcript.

  29. Sanity check: failed They did not even understand the illustration. The glassbowers also create useful vessels. The upside-down wineglass was a symbolic example for a useless vessel fit only for destruction. I would not only recommend that you go ahead doing the course, while considering the safety of yourselves since it is a bit dangerous, but that you speak to the brother again to clarify that he has fully misunderstood the broadcast. If he doesn't believe that, admonish him to contact the Branch to reassure himself. He is completely in the wrong. And he is taking his own thinking and making it a law without any biblical principles as a basis. This is dangerous because it can be stumbling to some.

  30. I went back and watched the glassblowing illustration again and I read the transcript to make sure I got it ... There was a lead into glassblowing that showed how that skill changed the world. Then, the progression of a glassblowing shop was demonstrated to show how more than one person can have input into the finished product. It covered four aspects of glassblowing in a shop ... gathering blowing adding features to the blown portion final shaping This was followed by a four part explanation that used the various steps of glassblowing to illustrate how this world (under Satan) can use heat and pressure to mold us. It was summed up with these words: Since the shop produced "beautiful, useful" vessels, I do not get where it was saying that glassblowing is a bad/wrong/useless/unfit/detestable/something to be avoided. The example/illustration was not intended to shed a disparaging on the craft of glassblowing. It was only used to demonstrate how we can be molded. We can be molded by Jehovah or Satan. If we allow Satan to mold us - we will be useless!

  31. I am reminded of the potter and the clay. It does not condemn pottery, but it illustrates a point. There are good uses and bad uses, but pottery was the example, as even glass blowing could have been. Older {waiting for wiser} [emoji1353]

  35. Our Be Bold! assembly happened today at our Montreal Assembly Hall. Peak attendance this morning was 2,133, and there were 10 baptized. One of those baptized was a very elderly (don't know how old) sister in a wheelchair. Two caregivers (likely son and daughter-in-law, or vice-versa) sat with her in the front row to help her stand for the questions. For the baptism, she had to be transferred into a regular chair and both of the baptizing brothers came up out of the pool to carry her down. Both brothers had to baptize her. Their first two attempts, while she was still in the chair, were unsuccessful. Because of the positioning, her knees stayed above the water. So then they removed her from the chair and tried again. You should have heard the shout of applause when, this time, they finally succeeded! There was also a huge smile on the sister's face! Then the brothers, without using the chair, carried her up the steps out of the pool to her wheelchair, and all the time she was waving to her family and friends! It was so heartwarming!

  37. Nice pictures, Shannie! It's nice to see young pictures of brothers you have only known as of age. Regarding Russell, there was no Governing Body when he lived, he was the only one in charge. So both answers are correct: He was a member of the GB, and he was not. In fact, he played the role of the whole GB.

No wonder Jesus says STOP being anxious! reminds me of this favourite scripture: Rom 8:32 Since he did not even spare his own Son but handed him over for us all, will he not also, along with him, kindly give us all other things?
