Poisonous Plants Article
Friends just call me Ross and 3 others reacted to Loopy for a topic
Wow! Cashews are related to these itchy plants. BTW, cashews are related. Cashews are another urushiol-harboring plant in the Anacardiaceae family. Yes, delicious snack-tastic cashews were once scary, toxin-coated itch bags. The nut (well, drupe technically) is housed in a double shell, and it is in the shell itself that urushiol is found. When cashews are processed, their shells are removed and any lingering poison is carefully cooked from the nut (even “raw” cashews are steamed before they hit the market). This explains why cashews are so under-represented in bowls of unshelled nuts waiting to be opened with a festive nutcracker. Cracking a walnut is one thing, but unleashing cashews requires protective clothing. 😳😳😳😳😳😳😳😳4 points -

Looking for Bible trivia/quiz questions from all of you!
Friends just call me Ross and 2 others reacted to Intercore for a topic
I've made a Bible trivia/quiz game named (translation) "Will you answer?" but it's only in Lithuanian. There are almost 300 questions and all of them are from Bible or about it. So, I have an idea to make it in English. I just need questions! Maybe someone from you collects it? If yes, maybe you can share it with me via PM? I would be greatly thankful! Some info about the game. It's made with PowerPoint. There are 2 game modes: play by set levels ("novice/beginner", "intermediate", "expert") or let the game to choose questions (random selection) which are mixed so you won't know which question will show (questions shouldn't repeat). Waiting!3 points -
Kingdom Halls Burned
hatcheckgirl and 2 others reacted to Sequoia for a topic
These two Kingdom Halls that were set on fire were in the Olympia, Lacey, Tumwater area in Thurston County Washington State, specifically Olympia and Tumwater. I don't know if anyone has posted about what happened to the Kingdom Hall in Yelm Washington yet. But it's in the same County and the same circuit as well. It was shot by rounds of bullets, thankfully when one was inside. http://www.yelmonline.com/records/sirens/article_27c465ba-59f6-11e8-946a-e3f10b0a4d28.html https://www.kiro7.com/news/south-sound-news/shots-fired-into-kingdom-hall-of-jehovahs-witnesses/7501555263 points -

The current volcanic activity is on the south east side of the island at the Volcano National Park. JW.ORG doesn't show any Kingdom Halls in the affected area, There are many congregations on the Big Island that are not near the volcanic activity. We vacation at Waikoloa Village and have attended meetings there, We have also attended at an older KH just above Captain Cook that had windows facing the ocean.2 points

Hourglass App and the GDPR
On the huh reacted to Stoffer for a topic
Seeing as the original thread, voicing the poster's concern, was closed (https://jwtalk.net/forums/topic/24844-hourglass-app/) I have started this new one. The new European Data Protection Law comes into play this Friday (25th May 2018) so ALL companies and individuals who hold data about European citizens have to comply by this date. My concern with Hourglass is that it holds what the Spanish Data Protection Agency (AEPD) classes as Super-protected data: sex, telephone numbers, personal address etc etc. This would be fine if it was stored on the secretary's own computer with adequate protection or on JW's own servers (this is in the works with the new Publisher ID program) but it is stored on Jon Snyder's server. What happens if he were to get disfellowshipped or leave the organisation for whatever reason? That's a heck of a lot of personal data he has access to. Plus, the majority of brothers and sisters aren't aware that he even HAS their data as it is the congregation secretaries who input it all. I don't have an account for example with him but my data is in his program because our secretary uses it. That's a breach of the GDPR right there as I never gave my consent. Plus there is no way to delete your data unless you have a personal account with Hourglass. Breach number two. For every person he has stored in his database, he has to by law, send them an updated consent form explaining how he will use their data, for how long for, in what format and inform them of their right to access, modify, oppose or delete their data. he has not done this, breach number three. What's all the fuss?, you might be asking. The fact that our organisation is getting the GDPR forms filled out ASAP shows you they mean business as hefty fines abound for non-compliance. Even though CCJW is based in America, they hold data on European citizens so they have done their due diligence and rolled out these forms. If it was a trivial matter, then they wouldn't have bothered. So brother Joao from Portugal raised a legitimate concern two years ago that is even more relevant today. Last of all, here is a list of the fines for non-compliance: Up to €20 million, or 4% of the worldwide annual revenue of the prior financial year, whichever is higher, shall be issued for infringements of: The basic principles for processing, including conditions for consent, under Articles 5, 6, 7, and 9 The data subjects’ rights under Articles 12-22 The transfer of personal data to a recipient in a third country or an international organisation under Articles 44-49 Any obligations pursuant to Member State law adopted under Chapter IX Any non-compliance with an order by a supervisory authority (83.6) The value of the fine to be imposed is not clear-cut and the behaviour of the organisation will be taken into account when determining the value of the fine. This means that organisations certainly have the opportunity to influence the reduction of any fines by acting to fully comply with the Regulation. This includes promoting a culture of data protection and being able to show the steps taken to comply. Organisations that proactively report breaches will be given more credit, showing that the intention and attitude of a company will be considered.1 point -

Ha. Poison oak, a pest. And for me, a nice briny bath stops it in its tracks. Our plant foe is hemlock. Yep, hemlock. Deadly hemlock. The groups that come and green machine for us will not touch the stuff. And, this year, it spread. I’ve read how to handle it. Carefully cut it down without touching it. Put it in black garbage bags, and then, leave em in the sun. Then, off to the dump. In the bags. This is how my husband handled it. The green machine.1 point -
To Doug's point, there was a very quite and secretive update to this sad and tragic story: https://www.freep.com/story/news/2018/05/18/keego-harbor-murder-suicide-lauren-stuart/620709002/?from=new-cookie This report, while still trying to loosely blame Jehovah's Witness, demonstrated that this woman had DEEP mental health issues and severe psychological issues and had untreated depression that got way worse. She was also sexually abused as a child. No way this can be blamed on anything except her own problems, as the overwhelming majority of former members never commit murder.1 point

https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/money/hawaii-volcano-has-flung-ash-and-rattled-residents-now-its-taking-a-toll-on-the-big-islands-economy/ar-AAxntaf Hotels and authorities are desperately trying to reassure guests the Big Island is safe. They point out that the island is as big as Delaware and Rhode Island combined, and the lava flows are more than 30 miles away from most tourist areas. "When this is over, I'll be surprised if more than 10 miles are affected," County Mayor Harry Kim said. Although the eruptions and evacuations have made news, the vast majority of life is unaffected on the Big Island: Schools are open, the sun is shining and golfers are putting away. Tourists stroll the shore in Hilo as the waves gently roll in from the Pacific; poke restaurants are offering fresh-caught fish and locally roasted coffee. JWLibrary on my father's iPad was glitching the other day. On the Home Screen, instead of showing Favorites, the ToolBox, Whats New, etc, it was all blank with a message "There is nothing new to show here". It was working again at a later time. I think it was just having difficulty connecting to JW.org and downloading the latest information. Maybe the connection was bad or the server was busy.1 point -
So, I'm watching TV and a Tide laundry detergent commercial comes on. It says the ancient Romans washed their clothes in heated urine. So I Googled, and sure enough, the commercial laundry used primarily urine and water to clean (!) clothes. They would leave jars around town and folks could 'donate' . The jars were collected and used in the laundry business. Ahh . . The good old days1 point

I sent a letter of encouragement to Brother Christiansen and, with the elders permission, I handed out his 'temporary' address and instructions on what and how to write to him to others at our "Just Around the Corner" get together last Saturday. I wish I had more addresses to write letters of encouragement to. Our persecuted brothers and sisters can't all be members of this supportive message board. Our prayers to Jehovah don't require any postage. So, in the meantime, we pray that they can remain loyal under trial, and trust that they will do the same for us, when our feet are held to the fire.1 point

Sunday, May 20 By [God] we have life and move and exist.—Acts 17:28.
Spechellekaye reacted to GrumpysWife for a topic
Sunday, May 20 By [God] we have life and move and exist.—Acts 17:28. There are many reasons why we should be thankful to Jehovah! We owe him our very life, for without him we would not even move or exist. He has given us a very precious gift—his own book, the Bible. We gratefully accept it as God’s message, even as the Christians in Thessalonica received God’s word and accepted it. (1 Thess. 2:13) With the written Word of God in hand, we have drawn close to Jehovah and he has drawn close to us. (Jas. 4:8) Our heavenly Father has granted us the wonderful privilege of being part of his organization. How we appreciate such blessings! The psalmist put matters beautifully when he sang: “Give thanks to Jehovah, for he is good; his loyal love endures forever.” (Ps. 136:1) Twenty-six times in Psalm 136, we find the refrain “his loyal love endures forever.” By proving loyal to Jehovah and his organization, we will experience the truthfulness of those heartening words because we will live forever! w16.11 3:18, 191 point -

Is there any wonder why we generally are ignored by investigative bodies in favor of pedophile safe havens like the RCC? Because they know JWs don't have a problem with pedophiles. Hence, the only reason why we are ever investigated is because lying apostates need to scream from the hilltops and recruit dishonest media outlets as an official publishers of their outrageous lies. This pressures investigative bodies. However, the are never pressured to investigate anyone else. Isn't that something?1 point -
The Royal Wedding
Hannah reacted to Allabord4Jah for a topic
The wedding was lovely, with the exception of the church and guest screaming preacher for the bride. Please, Jehovah let your day be close at hand, I can't take anymore of false religion. Between the arch-bishop and the pastor for the bride was horrific. You could see the audience get jittery, and they laughed. You could also see it in their faces there is no belief in God. The only one I really like was the cellist who played while they were in the back signing the book of matrimony. Please, hope the end comes soon! I did not get up at 4am to watch this stupidity. I watched the recaps, the first thing for recap that popped on my screen was the "pastor" for Megan Merkle Windsor. Blind guides all of them!1 point -
My wife watched it and being a good husband who is smart enough to know a good opportunity earn brownie points when I see one, I sat with her and put my arm around her and pretended to be interested. I was surprised they risked using an open horse drawn carriage in today's world, I was worried about a shooter taking them both out on live global TV. I did notice the heavy police coverage facing the crowd. Looked like they were armed and I saw at least one had a sniper rifle with a scope. I imagine that they had orders if anyone pulled a gun, they were to take them out with a quick head shot. I saw many in the crowd taking pictures with large black cameras that could be mistaken for a gun. I was relieved the broadcast was uneventful. The police I saw on TV were probably just the tip of the iceberg, far more must have been involved in sweeping the area before hand, doing background checks on locals, screening visitors, snipers on roof tops and undercover officers in the crowds. That is the reality behind the seemingly peaceful royal wedding, any peace is an illusion because the world is not a peaceful place. You have to go through security to enter Disneyland, an amusement park. In Orlando, Florida, Disney World security by their presence, kept the Orlando shooter from attacking the crowds in the park. Instead, he killed 49 in a gay night club in Orlando. If not for the security checks, that shooting may have been on Main street in the Magic Kingdom at WDW. This is the real world that we live in. Beautiful royal weddings or walking down Main Street in Magic Kingdom, is an illusion of peace, like being in the calm of the eye of a hurricane, surrounded by a circle of security to keep the bad people out. Another school shooting in Texas yesterday, need more security. The world can't get enough security to keep everyone safe. Eventuality if you get enough armed guards you will get one that turns and shoots what they are suppose to be protecting. That was my other worry watching the royal wedding carriage going by the long line of police on each side of the road. This world isn't safe and never will be, and it is getting worse everyday, used to be you didn't have to go through any security to go on a plane, enter an amusement park or attend a wedding. The Kingdom is the only solution.1 point

Additional things to consider: How is their health. DO they need medications that would be difficult to obtain while traveling? How familiar are they with pulling an RV? How is their sense of direction? Some people are good at navigating - some are not .... and this still holds true even with GPS. It is important to think about the practical things in addition to the spiritual ones.1 point
