I enjoy our feeding arrangement - people staying in their seats and eating a simple lunch ... instead of the time consuming process of making the meals so the friends could stand in long lines to get them ... the way we do it now is SO much better! As a side thought ... we have a Sister in our Hall that is only partially happy for the large screens. She was very excited when we first got them because she is nearly deaf and cannot hear the program even with a headset on. However, she is expert at reading lips. She tries to sit on the front row at the RC so she can see the screens with no one blocking her view. She can now see the speakers AND read their lips. She has really enjoyed that aspect of the screens. However, as things have progressed and we have gotten more videos during the program, she is not as happy with those. I never thought about it ... but, as she pointed out, during the videos, the people on them talk to each other or there is a "narration" that she cannot really hear - as opposed to the speaker facing the camera where she can read the lips. Now, if they would add "closed captions" she would probably like that4 points

Hello I am brother from Canada, and I have been a Witness for 30 years give or take. I just want to know what changes you have seen that you just love. For me its the screens at the summer assemblies. As a child growing up and trying to pay attention to what the speaker was saying was difficult. Hard to see, and such. Now that the screens are there, and you can see the speakers emotions and gestures, and the videos that area played is just phenomenal! Especially the dramas. So much easier to process everything.3 points -

I almost look foreword to them as much as the program. I just want peace and quiet to enjoy them. BTY, has there been a way to download our convention music that I missed? I love the treatment of older ones. Almost melts my heart. How Jehovah feels about us just permeates the atmosphere. How do your food choices impact on the environment?

2 eggs per serving ( 3 times -weekly..talking about 6-7 eggs every week) Over an entire year your consumption of eggs is contributing 115kg to your annual greenhouse gas emissions. That's the equivalent of driving a regular petrol car 296 miles (476km). the same as heating the average UK home for 18 days. Your consumption of eggs also uses 14,349 litres of water, equal to 220 showers lasting eight minutes. https://www.bbc.com/news/health-468652042 points -

Combs - after resurrection.?
dilip kumar and one other reacted to shali for a topic
Well have enough Miejer's and Wal-marts around to keep us in combs for a very long time, let along the warehouses of the comb factories. There is an interesting verse that also has a future fulfillment in Isaiah 33:23 that says: Your ropes must hang loose; their mast wil not hold firmly erect; they have not spread a sail. At that time even spoil in abundance will have to be divided up; the lame ones themselves will actually take a big plunder". Here is what the Isaiah book, Volume 1 says after quoting that scripture: "Any approaching enemy will prove to be as ineffective and helpless against Jehovah as a warship with loose rigging, a wobbling mast and no sail. The destruction of God's enemies will result in so much spoil that even disabled ones will share in taking plunder. We can therefore be confident that through the King Jesus Christ, Jehovah will triumph over his enemies in the coming "great tribulation"." I always felt that Jehovah would not be wasteful when it came to preserving resources we could still use after Armageddon. Why would he destroy things that would be helpful to us or things we would need? (we all need combs!)2 points -

Haha! Don is sure enjoying them! Me too! Not as heavy as Keto unbaked chocolate cheesecake with 3/4 " of whipped cream on top! Today I bought this nifty electric egg/omlette, poached egg cooker for $25 at World Market (owned by Bed, Bath, Beyond). This picture was taken with the steamer sitting on the arm of my recliner! I am not using my Cuisenart pressure cooker anymore...thought the non-stick inside removable pot was not Teflon, but found out it is..plus has scratches because I was browning meat in it which sticks a little. When steaming eggs, supposedly the steam penetrates the shells, and I don't want chemicals from the Teflon to penetrate also! It will be interesting to see how easily the eggs peel in my new steam cooker. I'm glad these pictures didn't load sideways like the cookies!!😄2 points

Made bone broth. simmered 27 hours. Got home from work this morning and it was simmering away, I wanted to eat it. It had a nice 2 inches of oil on top. As it simmered I took a ladle and poured the boiling liquid over cabbage, thin sliced crimini, mung bean sprouts and leftover shank meat. Oh my goodness....it was amazing! I gobbled up the whole bowl. The oil on top was indescribable. Wow. Kept me happy until 6:30 pm, 10 hours. Then I had stir fry, Lew loves this, so glad because it makes cooking easier.2 points -

I guess I'm an outlier in that while I appreciate the changes and love a lot of them - tech and electronics for the win!!! - other things are not my particular cuppa tea. I'm not a fan of the shorter talks/symposium style. They're so short that by the time I'm really grooving along with the theme and my notes, we're moving on to another talk. Now, I don't have attention span issues... I'm more annoyed when things move from subject to subject quickly. I LOVE when we get those 45 min talks on the Broadcast sometimes. It allows the brother to really develop the material, I can focus, relax and take it all in knowing he won't disappear from the stage any time soon! While I do enjoy the videos very much, I can't really take notes on those at all. I am more an aural learner than visual and once the videos are over, I often forget what the message was. I'll remember the graphics, etc, but the lessons -- I just have to feel like watching them again when they're released for us (closed captions would really be terrific!). When I can take notes for an entire talk, I will remember most of what I heard. I do LOVE what we've done on a musical level -- new arrangements for the assemblies are the highlights for me. ❤️ I like the format of the Midweek Meeting... but I do still miss the Book Study and the old meal arrangements for many reasons.2 points -
All the things already mentioned, also all the publications in soft cover instead of the hard little books. Also, the beautiful Workbooks that replace the KM's, with the new format, pictures, colors, scriptures, love them. No more offering subs or asking for donations at the door.. Love the smaller tracts and calling cards.. So many things in electronic form instead of hard copy to save carrying a lot of weight. I used to carry a book bag that was so full of literature it caused my service partner to say, my, you're ready for anything aren't you..2 points

I agree. During the RC's at times I look over to where the actual speaker is (instead of looking at the screens) and he seems so far away and I ask myself how I ever did it back then to concentrate if I couldn't see the facial expressions of the speakers or the participants. Also, I like the length of the talks now. Both the public talks - 30 minutes and the assembly talks which are limited to no more than 15 minutes on average. I also enjoy the new meeting format (CLM). I also enjoy the new technology tools that we have for meetings, field service, and personal study. (Like JW Library)2 points -

Do you enjoy playing violent video games? Then you can't avoid military service. That appears to be the message South Korea is sending conscientious objectors. Prosecutors said they were investigating whether a number of men seeking exemption from military service played "online shooting games" in the past. "We need to verify their genuine faith. So we need to examine their personal life," an official with the prosecutors office on the southern island of Jeju told CNN. "We check whether they had been attending (religious) service. Checking their history with shooting games is another method." hat ruling came after a decades-long fight by conscientious objectors, many of them Jehova's Witnesses, to push back against the country's stringent military service law, under which all men between the ages of 18 and 35 are required to perform at least 21 months of service in the South Korean armed forces. Since then, however, conservative politicians and prosecutors have attempted to get around the court's ruling, by, for example, requiring conscientious objectors to carry out more stringent -- and potentially more dangerous -- forms of non-military service. Following an earlier ruling by a constitutional court ordering the government to provide alternate ways to serve for objectors, the right-wing Liberty Korea Party put forward a bill to force objectors to perform 44 months -- double the usual length -- of service, including mine sweeping and other dangerous activities. "This is a form of retaliatory punishment against conscientious objectors that is anachronistic and in violation of human rights," South Korea's Hankyoreh newspaper said in an editorial at the time. https://edition.cnn.com/2019/01/11/asia/conscientious-objector-south-korea-gaming-intl/index.html1 point

S Korea to investigate whether conscientious objectors played violent video games
steeringwheel reacted to Bruceq for a topic
This article goes well with our Watchtower study today. What we do on the internet is not invisible to Jehovah OR to the World anymore. A good reason not to be hypocritical and live the truth. From CNN: S Korea to investigate whether conscientious objectors played violent video games By Jake Kwon and James Griffiths, CNN Updated 8:10 AM ET, Fri January 11, 2019 A South Korean soldier looks at ribbons with inscriptions calling for peace and reunification displayed on a military fence near the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) dividing the two Koreas in the border city of Paju on January 1, 2019. Seoul (CNN)Do you enjoy playing violent video games? Then you can't avoid military service. That appears to be the message South Korea is sending conscientious objectors. Prosecutors said they were investigating whether a number of men seeking exemption from military service played "online shooting games" in the past. "We need to verify their genuine faith. So we need to examine their personal life," an official with the prosecutors office on the southern island of Jeju told CNN. "We check whether they had been attending (religious) service. Checking their history with shooting games is another method." Around a dozen men are currently facing hearings to determine whether they can claim conscientious objector status in the wake of a landmark Supreme Court ruling in Novemberending South Korea's position as the world's leading jailer of those who refuse to join the armed forces. "Refusing to enter the military due to a religious faith which forbids bearing arms is considered a justified reason to refuse duty," the court said in its ruling. "Therefore it cannot be criminally punished." Oh Seung-hun (C), a Jehovah's Witness, speaks to the media after a court's verdict to overturn his conviction on refusing to do mandatory military service, at the supreme court in Seoul on November 1, 2018. That ruling came after a decades-long fight by conscientious objectors, many of them Jehovah's Witnesses, to push back against the country's stringent military service law, under which all men between the ages of 18 and 35 are required to perform at least 21 months of service in the South Korean armed forces. South Korean army soldiers leave for the North to inspect the dismantled North Korean guard post in the central section of the inter-Korean border in Cheorwon, South Korea on December 12, 2018. Conscientious objection remains controversial beyond South Korea, and those attempting to secure the status in order to avoid military service are often subject to multiple interviews and attempts to purportedly prove they are not sincere. For example, the Selective Service System, the US agency which oversees the draft, states that an applicant's "reasons for not wanting to participate in a war must not be based on politics, expediency, or self-interest. In general, the man's lifestyle prior to making his claim must reflect his current claims." By focusing on violent video games, prosecutors now appear to be attempting to undermine objectors' claims to be pacifist or driven by a pacifist religious belief, a move which has been denounced by activists. Lim Tae-hoon, head of the Center for Military Human Rights Korea, told CNN the investigations of conscientious objectors showed prosecutors "still sees objectors as criminals." "They are imposing a moral line fit for saints and spiritual leaders on them," he said. "It is a violation of privacy. Playing shooting video games and the refusal to bear arms is unrelated. It's a subjective judgment. A game is merely a game." He added that the center planned to report prosecutors to the National Human Rights Commission. "It's their duty to defend human rights," Lim said. "They are not upholding the duty but acting against it." This story has been updated to correct the spelling of Jehovah.1 point -

I got an example of this just a few hours ago. We have a grandson over for the night. He will be 7 tomorrow. He has been doing things with me most of the day and has been fine. After dinner we let him play with his IPad. House rules are no violent games. Well, he had some rough ones on his tablet and I wasn't really paying attention so he was doing some slice and dice and shoot em up stuff, volume down low. After awhile he told me he was feeling mad, and didn't know why. We talked for a couple of minutes and then I asked him what game he was playing. After I saw it I asked him if maybe that's why he was angry. We reasoned it out pretty good for a few minutes and I told him that's why we don't do violent games, I don't like them and God doesn't like them. He understood fairly well. He says he wants to please God and he doesn't understand why other people don't want to. We did some reasoning on that too....1 point

CCCG reacted to Stormswift for a topic
The funny thing is this type of situation (the busybody thingee) is exactly the situation that came up for me in real life recently. I was working with a sister and she was complaining about the 'negative spirit' in our congregation ... this surprised me because I thought the spirit in our congregation was really good and the sisters she hinted at I had also associated with and didn't find them negative at all. I started wondering if I was missing something - I was. When I worked it out it was because this sister was being negative herself! Because I'm a somewhat positive person I tend not to see the negative things or things perceived as negative when they aren't. So I think this is key ... is to be positive yourself , keep tweaking your own outlook and you tend to see the good things in other people not the ugly or negative things. It takes work and perhaps some are new in the truth are still working on this aspect, but its really worth working on ... because when you read things on a forum like this ... unless it's in your face bad or has violated a scriptural principle you go away thinking oh that person was having a bad day - or the issue isn't that big a deal - they'll move on. Remember to think: Is it going to matter in a 1000 years, in a 100? or even in ten? 99.99% of things we get upset with are trival. Until this thread I had NO idea about the busybody issue and I read at least most of the threads when I can. Oh and I was talking to a brother the other night he gave me a quip that I find excellent. "Spiritual people don't get offended - they just move on" Something for me to ponder and apply in my life.1 point -
A couple of weeks ago I was talking to an older sister who pioneered for years and she stunned me by saying that she always counted the time taking an unbaptised person or study to or from a meeting/convention/assembly. Another way she gained time was...........she lived in a block of flats, and if I picked her up to drive her to the field service group she would close her front door and immediately knock on the front door beside hers and start a conversation with whichever occupant answered. She would begin counting time from when the door opened. I try to write my hours down as they occur, but with a memory like mine (after two minor strokes) sometimes its hard to remember to even do that!! Just an aside, I have a study once or twice a month with two different students (sometimes its only quarter of an hour or so) but I still count them as studies on my monthly report. Two weeks ago a neighbour of a RV picked up the copy of the 'Teach Your Children' brochure and told me it was really interesting, so a few days later I dropped in to see her and gave her a copy of her own to read. This week I dropped in again, and she began to talk of all her family - photos all over her lounge walls - and I noticed that she had lots of religious articles around her flat (yes I know, sometimes Jehovah must want to use a 4x2 on my head to get me to see things). One picture, of a son that had died 40 years previously also had a rosary wrapped around it, so of course I went into the resurrection thing. Ended up placing the Good News brochure, and she's agreed to study it. She's cant wait to find out more. She's only 95 !! A bit off topic, but had to share.1 point
