    California Fires

The Camp Fire is officially 100% contained. There is still a lot of concern about fire damaged trees falling. There is also a lot of concern about mud slides.

  2. A sister from our congregation has just come back from a sad visit to hospital where her mother died. It was sad but expected.. Then she told me that when she had occasion to phone the hospital (Norfolk and Norwich UK) and put on hold she said 'that music sounds familiar?' It is our Kinghorn Songs! Turns out one of our brothers who works at the hospital is in charge of this on hold music. The hospital often gets complimentary inquiries about this and whet they can get it! A very nice witness :)

  3. By the way, I now know a reason why the German NWT took so extra long. Or put it this way, I have discovered a new factor that I think is one of the reasons. German spelling was "revised" three times since the last NWT, once in 1996, then again in 2004 and again in 2006. Basically, nobody really knows the new spelling for certain. It's a huge, complicated mess. It makes people sick to even talk about the issue. Nobody asked for it, and it did nothing but confuse pupils and make correct spelling seem irrelevant in many people's eyes. I noticed that in 2. Timothy 3:1 read "kritische Zeiten mit denen man schwer fertigwird" in the recent Watchtower article but "fertig wird" in the Bible. I thought it was a typo, then thought that maybe it was a typo from the revised. Upon re-checking the new spelling in the latest spelling revision, it actually turned out that the "wrong" spelling the Watchtower was correct. So I'm thinking the poor German brothers working on the revised, German NWT had some severe problems trying to get it up to the most modern standards of German spelling. A task I do not envy them for.

While no Organization-made translation exists, I suggest Greenlandic 😁 http://old.bibelselskabet.dk/grobib/web/bibelen.htm The word “Chapter” is short and sweet—“Kapitel”, but that is because that word is borrowed from Danish! — Edit: Man is this forum software smart... Too many messages within a short time from this guy so it merged my posts with different topics together 🙈 Oh yeah, attaching a picture of the Finnish NWT that my parents sent me on WhatsApp.

And as most of the middle of Australia is desert like, it doesn't take long to spread. One event affecting both Sydney and Brisbane is dust blowing in. This was on the news a few days ago... My DNA

I know this will be terribly boring to many but I feel I have to share it with you anyway. I love history in general and also my own and have been doing my family tree for about 20 years, off and on. I decided it was time to take a DNA test. Because I am female I can only get my maternal line, I am trying to organise one of my 2 remaining brothers to do our paternal line. Anyhoo! the maternal results are in: England, Wales & Northwestern Europe - 58% Ireland & Scotland - 38% European Jewish - 4% Guess which one fascinates me the most!!!

  11. A couple of more languages are in!! Got a word from my parents that they were told word is not be spread until all congregations have seen the delayed stream on Sunday. They had their streaming yesterday when Br. Morris from the Governing Body released the revised New World Translation in Finnish and Lithuanian. The previous revision in Finnish was from 1995 whereas in Lithuanian the Organization has never released the complete Bible before. When the Scandinavian languages (except Faroese and Icelandic) got their revised Bibles 10-11 months ago I was pretty much “Meh whatevz” even though I have lived in Sweden for the past 11 years or so. Now the revised NWT is already available through JW Library even though it was supposed to be available from tomorrow (Monday) evening. Can’t wait to get my hands on a printed copy! I guess this shows what is the language of my heart after all Cool to have it before big languages like German and Spanish, too! No pictures yet but guess they will be making their way round Instagram later.

    Love or criticism?

I have noticed that in recent times Christian love and civility are being strained. Look at some of the threads and posts in various subjects. Someone will make a comment and the observers take sides. Not just commenting but taking the person to task over the post. If I say “Great Crowd” in a post, someone will have to point out that these people only exist after Armageddon. That riposte will generate a counter attack with a Watchtower quote saying it’s used as a generic term, and so on. Supposedly on this forum, we are all the “good-guys” and the opposers are the ones “out-there” in the world. In the western movie scenario, we have ‘circled the wagons’ to protect us against the Indian attack (apologies to my first nation, aboriginal, etc friends). Inside the wagon circle, we are supposed to be supportive, caring, defending and so on. Instead, these hardy pioneers are squabbling about spelling, counting, typos, limited research, forms, levity, personal attacks and so on. Satan does not have to assault us to get us to fall, we trip over our own feet. I like accuracy as much as the next researcher but is it life-threatening? We make all kinds of allowances for children. *** w94 5/15 p. 12 par. 11 Parents, Your Children Need Specialized Attention *** One couple listened while their three-year-old asked God to bless “Wally.” He prayed for “Wally” on succeeding nights, and the parents were greatly encouraged when they realized that he meant the brothers in Malawi, then suffering persecution. If that poor kid had posted here he might have received a smile if he was under 12 years of age, but a much different response if he was 20. What happened to the kind, loving appreciation for a good effort? Suggestions (even counsel) can be applied if necessary but can we avoid being critical? Human nature is with us always, but how we apply the new personality is a choice. I hope all of our forum participants can upgrade their research and comments but I want to apply tolerance to those who have not reached my exalted level of competence…❤️

I even had a few days where I was able to boast cooler weather than Ferb, up there XD. Then, all of a sudden, it's started to rain and it's back up to 70F (about 21 C), and I'm thinking "I want my winter weather back!". It's been raining the past few days too. I like rain, but after a while, the place will get musty and my allergies come out.

  18. Yes, air quality is a serious problem. Those with Asthma or other respiratory conditions are told to stay indoors. Bring the washing in. Close all windows and doors. While it is not a common occurrence, it happens enough for us to be aware of them. I vividly remember my first encounter with one. The red dust blew in from the neighbouring state, hundreds of miles away. It turned day into night. My wife suffers from asthma, so I learnt it was more than a curiosity, but potentially life threatening. We take the warnings seriously. (Although I don't expect to see them here in the tropics now...) Maybe this talk about 'global warming' might explain why we seem to be having more of them. 41. I had to withdraw from commenting on many scriptural topics for that very reason, that's WHY, you often see only "humor" in my comments. If I have to "defend" details and giving "Insight Volume" additional supporting comments because someone has a critical eye, then I simply do not have time for it. To busy in real life with heavy business and congregational responsibilities (especially with the spiritual ones) Still enjoying the forum, and some of the comments are just "groundbreaking" and extremely up-building. On the other hand, if I ever made anyone feeling bit "green" by my comments then I apologize YES, we need to keep ourselves from "keyboard bravery" as Tortuga pointed out. Great reminder - THANK YOU

  42. On way home from service, (and errands) a rock hit my front tire. Flattened it. Immediately. I sat beside the road, in the dark, for an hour and a half. I prayed for safety. And, I wasn’t moved to put on my flashers, but to wait. I’d phoned Triple A, the roadside service. There was a place to park, a miracle, (almost) I know I didn’t have my flashers on, but a good thirty cars, even a sheriffs vehicle sailed past me. And, people know my car. That shocked me. I told them at the store what happened. They will let the community know. I drive a Subaru. And I know the rock hit the sidewall. Now, I get to find out if I will have to get new tires. It’s parked outside, with the sissy tire on.

That's why I rarely post here anymore. And it often feels like there is kind of a gang mentality, especially if someone has a opinion that's different from the majority. They'll all jump you and try to show how ridiculous your opinion is. I don't need that. In person they probably wouldn't have the guts.

  44. Before we had the “Examining the Scriptures Daily” book to read for our daily text, we had the “Daily Text and Comments” in the back of the Yearbook each year. But before that, we had a publication called “Daily Heavenly Manna” with a scripture for the day, pages for recording birthdays, marriages and deaths. This publication was printed by Zion’s Watchtower but written (authored) by a sister named Gertrude W. Seibert. She was associated with the Bethel family at 124 Columbia Heights in Brooklyn. My copy is dated as 1907. It was used for years. It is mentioned in some yearbook reports and is note in the Proclaimer’s book on page 201. She offered to update the publication in 1926 but by then the writing of literature was done by appointed brothers. So the offer was declined. Seibert died in 1928.

    Love or criticism?

John, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU! This has needed to be mentioned in our family for a long time. We get enough criticism from Satan's world. Our circle needs to encourage each other, remembering that some of us do not have the opportunity for a decent education. Some of us do not have the capacity to learn as well as some others. Jehovah sees our efforts and our potential . Should not we have the mind of Christ and overlook our dear brothers' and sisters' imperfections? If we are nitpicking now, it will certainly divide us during the GT. Abraham Lincoln took notice of Mark 3:24 in connection with the American Civil War; " If a kingdom becomes divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand." W e have a tremendous bank of information about Jehovah's people suffering intense persecution. One of the most important tools for them, after Jehovah's holy spirit, was the brotherhood. We need to practice now, how to appreciate our dear friends. We may have to die for someone with whom we do not get along. What a tragedy that could be, to lose our life, our approval from Jehovah, because we did not like a fellow believer.
